The SPCA/Humane Society of Prince George's County, Inc. was established in 1976 and chartered by the State of Maryland as a nonprofit organization whose primary goals are preventing cruelty to animals and ending pet overpopulation. Among other offerings, we provide low-cost vaccinations and micro-chipping at our once-a-month shot clinic, dog and cat adoption programs, and humane education and cruelty investigation.
We are an all-volunteer group and we can always use more help! Our great volunteers help by fostering animals, returning phone calls and e-mails, handling dogs and cats at adoption shows, transporting animals to those shows and to vet appointments, conducting homevisits (of potential adopters), photographing cats and dogs for our website, helping out with fundraisers and other events, working at our clinic, researching reports of cruelty to animals, and educating the public on animal-related issues. Come get involved!
Adopting a friend
If you are interested in adopting a pet from us, we encourage you first to come to an adoption show. We generally have 3 shows per month. Information about which pet will be attending which show is posted on that pet's website, usually by the Thursday before the show. If the animal you are interested in will not be attending the show that weekend (or if there is no show that weekend), we encourage you to fill out an application on line and send it to us so that we know you are interested. Additionally, please e-mail us at pgspcavol@gmail.com .
Come Visit Us!
While we don't operate a shelter, we do have monthly events, and we'd love to meet you at one of them. Please check our calendar for a list of upcoming events.
