The SPCA/Humane Society of Prince George's County, Inc. was established in 1976 and chartered by the State of Maryland as a nonprofit organization whose primary goals are preventing cruelty to animals and ending pet overpopulation. Among other offerings, we provide low-cost vaccinations and micro-chipping at our once-a-month shot clinic, dog and cat adoption programs, and humane education and cruelty investigation.
We are an all-volunteer group and we can always use more help! Our great volunteers help by fostering animals, returning phone calls and e-mails, handling dogs and cats at adoption shows, transporting animals to those shows and to vet appointments, conducting homevisits (of potential adopters), photographing cats and dogs for our website, helping out with fundraisers and other events, working at our clinic, researching reports of cruelty to animals, and educating the public on animal-related issues. Come get involved!
Adopting a friend
If you are interested in adopting a pet from us, we encourage you first to come to an adoption event. Information about which pet will be attending is posted on that pet's website, usually by the Thursday before the event. If the animal you are interested in will not be attending the event that weekend (or if there is no event that weekend), we encourage you to download our application and either fax it to 866-535-8173, or scan and email it to firstname.lastname@example.org , or bring it along with you to the next event.
Our adoption events are held the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Saturday's of the month from noon-2pm. The locations are as follows:
12020 Cherry Hill Road
Silver Spring, MD
2319 Forest Dr
Annapolis, MD 21401
4500 Mitchellville Rd
Bowie, MD 20716
