Placing Homeless Dalmatians in Maryland, Virginia, and DC!

Our Pet List

NEWS

Hello! Thank you for visiting us. We are very pleased to to be part of the Petfinder family, and know you will enjoy meeting our wonderful Dals here.

At the bottom is a link to our primary home page which has links to other rescue organizations and a large repository of useful information for all pet owners.

MISSION STATEMENT

The Chocolate Chip Dalmatian Assistance League is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping unwanted, abandoned, abused, and/or neglected Dalmatians find loving permanent homes. We evaluate the dogs’ temperaments, foster the Dalmatians in our homes, bring them up to date on vet care, spay or neuter, and provide socialization.

We generally do not take in owner relinquishments for foster, but will assist the owners in finding a new home by posting their Dalmatian on our web site if they will continue to physically and financially support their dog until an appropriate, permanent home is located.

PRIMARY GOALS

Rescuing pure-bred Dalmatians of good temperament and finding appropriate permanent homes for them,

Educating the public about the Dalmatian breed,

Assisting owners with all aspects of raising a Dalmatian,

Promoting responsible pet ownership,

Advocating spay/neuter as a means of decreasing pet over-population, and

Cooperating with other rescue groups and assisting them whenever possible.

ADOPTION PROCEDURES

CCDAL does not have a shelter. Since all of our pets are fostered in the Washington DC area, we limit our placements to Maryland, DC, and Virginia. Prospective adopters first complete an application, then we contact their vet(s) to verify the care of their current and past animals. If the adopter lives in rented property, we contact the landlord to verify that pets the size of a Dalmatian are allowed. If all goes well to this point, the adopter will be invited to meet the dog (or dogs) that they are interested in taking into their family. By meeting the dog in the foster home, you will have the opportunity to observe the dog in a familiar environment and ask any questions you might have by talking to the family members that know the dog best. We will make a home visit to be sure that your environment is suitable to the dog before final placement. Email ccdal@comcast.net for an application form, or go to our home page and click on the "Application" link at the top of the page to get the process started.
