Who we are:

The Plymouth Animal Shelter is a town facility in the Cedarville section of Plymouth. We provide shelter to homeless and abandoned cats and dogs in Plymouth. The Helping Hands for the Plymouth Animal Shelter is a non-profit organization that raises funds to pay for medical treatment for the animals in the shelter. Our adoption number is 1-508-888-1186. If you would like to become a member of The Helping Hands for the Plymouth Animal Shelter, a volunteer or interested in upcoming events, call 1-508-273-3472. If you would like to make a donation, please send checks to: The Helping Hands for the Plymouth Animal Shelter, PO Box 1042, Plymouth, MA 02362. All donations are greatly appreciated and provide for the health and well being of our animals.

Make a "Friend Fur Life"

We strive to match you with a companion that is suitable for you and your family's lifestyle. We do not do same-day adoptions. When you meet an animal that you would like to adopt, we first need you to fill out an application and then we check veterinary references. Some of the animals we rescue have been abused in past homes. So we try our hardest to meet the needs of the possible owner, as well as the animal. Some animals do not like children, or have a lot of energy and need a big yard to run around in, etc. So we will try our hardest for you to meet a "Friend fur life".

How can you help?

We are looking for adult volunteers to help take care of the cats on weekday mornings.

We also need people to transport injured and orphaned wild animals in cages

to the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center in Hingham.

We can always use dog walkers and volunteers to help us catch up on laundry.

If you love animals and would like to become a volunteer, please call Laurie or Bill at 508-888-1186.

We appreciate every donation we receive!

Our shelter is mostly based on our greatly appreciated donation.

We accept:

  • Towels/ Blankets

  • Food dishes, bowls, etc.

  • Dry or wet cat food, and dog food.

  • Toys

  • Etc.

Thank you for making your donations, the animals will love them!

Is your house safe for your new pet?

A few tips to keep that curious cat or dog out of trouble.

Living Room Dangers: Fireplaces, Front doors, Recliners.

May sound silly, but cats can unknowingly walk too close to a fire, igniting their fur. Or, could be crushed in the recliner! You may not have this problem at home, but it's just an idea to watch out for when you have a pet at home.

Kitchen Dangers: Stove, Knives, appliances (fridge, dishwasher, oven), plastic bags, pesicides, moth balls, human food, household cleaners, trash cans.

Some crazy kitties may want to jump up on the stove not knowing it's on, or may accidentily hurt htemselves on a knife. There have been problems of a small house pet getting stuck in the fridge or dishwasher, so watch out! Some cleaners around the house smell really good, and may seem tasty to a little furry friend. Keep them out of reach of the dog or cat.

Any past dog owner has experienced the dog getting into the trash. Fact is, if they eat moldy, or even the wrong food, it could poison them.

Garage/ Basement ANTI-FREEZE!

Anti-freeze smells very good to many animals, and there have been more than enough cases of a dog or cat ingesting it. It's so toxic to your animal it causes fatal kidney failure.

Laundry Room Dangers: Washer, Dryer, hot irons, ironing boards.

Hopefully your cat would never think of getting into the dryer or washer, so check if the problem ever arises.

Home Office Dangers: Electrical wires, Rolling chairs, Office supplies.

Cats love to play! they might think it's fun to tassel with the cords, or even chew on them, but watch out! you don't want fluffy to get zapped!

Bathroom Dangers: Cleaning solvents, medications, dental floss, toilet bowls.
