Who We Are

We are a small no-kill home-based shelter in the Forest Hills neighborhood of Jamaica Plain and a network of loving foster homes, friends, sympathetic veterinarians and feline rescuers, working to reduce the number of homeless cats in our backyards and on our local Boston streets. We are strictly NO-KILL. We believe that no one has the right to judge(as many shelters do) who is deserving of his or her own life. We euthanize only when a veterinarian concludes an animal is terminally ill with no hope of recovery. We are always asked our hours of operation. We are not staffed during the day, we receive no state, city or federal funding, we are all volunteers who give our time and money for love of the animals. We all work paying jobs during the day and care for the animals every evening. We use many private foster homes, so potential adopters must be screened first and come by appointment only. All adoptions involve completing an adoption application, vet and/or personal reference checks, and a nonprofit adoption fee which helps to recover our costs, and supports our work:

Fees may be increased/decreased depending on our costs for a particular animal. Fees may be reduced if you can adopt more than one! Email us now for an Adoption Profile!

Donations

Please help the cats with your TAX-DEDUCTIBLE donations. We are a registered, non-profit public charity. 100% of your donation goes to the animals because we are ALL VOLUNTEERS and draw no saleries! We have a food donation box at Pet Supplies Plus in West Roxbury and would love any dry or canned cat food! If you can offer help to animals in some other way, please contact us. During the warm months we need extra foster homes for abandoned pregnant cats. If you can help give a cat a safe place to raise her kittens, please let us know. For those who've considered letting your female cat have 1 litter before spaying her, if you love her you won't expose her to the diseases the 1st fleabitten, abandoned tomcat who walks by will give her. Consider taking in an already pregnant abandoned cat and giving her a safe place to give birth.

If you know of someone who has everything they need and loves cats but can't have another, a donation to 2nd Chance in their name would be a great alternative gift idea! A lunar calender is also a great gift idea, take a look at the very unique calender produced right here in Jamaica Plain: THELUNAPRESS.COM. For every calender purchased, a portion of the proceeds will benefit our cats-if you mention 2nd Chance.

We were pleasantly shocked to receive a belated birthday invitation notice about Fiona K's sleepover party! In lieu of gifts, she asked for donations to help our other kitties(her family adopted from us 3 yrs ago). ALL OF US at 2nd Chance have never heard of a 10 year old so generous as to give up her birthday presents! A true cat lover and born philanthropist-THANK YOU FIONA! Hannah M of Roslindale appreciates and loves her cats(adopted from us last year) so much that in gratitute she asked for donations for our shelter instead of birthday presents. That generous girl just sponsored "Sarah" so she can be spayed and will never worry about being pregnant on the street alone again-THANK YOU HANNAH! Charlotte C of Newton collected donations for 2nd Chance & gave a portion of her Bat-Mitzvah money to benefit the cats! Mazel Tov Charlotte and THANKS!

To help abandoned cats lucky enough to find space in our shelter, or find foster homes to safely have their kittens, plz send a check to "Second Chance Shelter". mail to: Second Chance, 675 VFW Parkway #266, Chestnut Hill, MA 02467

We can use all those Shaw's/Star Harvest points or Turkey points-etc, cat food and litter coupons you won't use-PLEASE MAIL IN ANYTHING YOU THINK CAN HELP US FEED/HOUSE/PLACE OUR RESCUED CATS!

Call or write, and arrange to visit us!
