Adopting an animal may be more involved than you expect. The best interest of the animals in our care is our primary concern. Our goal is for these animals to secure a permanent home.
The first step in the process, is completing an adoption application. You can obtain an application 2 ways: in person at the shelter, or you can request an on line application by emailing us at email@example.com.
Information required may include but not limited to: identification verification, veterinary references for current and/or prior pets in your care; proof of home ownership or written landlord consent permitting animals in/on the property, as well as proven ability to contain the animal to your property.Upon submission of the completed application, all information will be verified.
Due to the high volume of applications we receive, only those applicants who are approved to adopt an animal will be contacted. Once approved, Kingston Animial Shelter personnel will accompany individuals interested in adopting a pet into the appropriate animal areas. Our personnel will provide the history and needs of the animal including feeding and exercise requirements necessary. If you come here with your children, please DO NOT lead them to believe you will be adopting, or going home with an animal. The process, depending on personnel availability may take several days. We reserve the right to deny any application without cause.
Kittens: $100 (this includes a $40 spay/neuter deposit) which will be refunded $40 only) upon presentation of a spay/neuter certificate from a licensed vet.
Cats: $120 Senior Citizen Rate $100
Please note: these rates are subject to change without notice.
Kingston Animal Shelter accepts CASH or Checks. We do not accept Credit Card payments at the present time. Please make checks payable to: Town of Kingston.
On adoption day, Kingston Animal Shelter will provide hard copies of medical records for the pet you are adopting. The keeping of these records upon adoption will be the responsibility of the new owner. Any other questions/concerns will be addressed at time of adoption. Adopted animals can be picked up on Sat. from 9-12 noon, unless alternate arrangements have been made for a week day pick-up, provided an Animal Control Officer is available to assist.
Additional issues to consider prior to adopting a pet include:
Holds will only be placed on an animal with an Approved Application.
Your patience and understanding of our adoption policies and procedures are greatly appreciated.
The Kingston Animal Shelter provides temporary housing for stray and/or abandonded dogs and cats in our community, until permanent homes can be found. The Town of Kingston provides the shelter with a small operating budget. However, all expenses related to veterinary care; including exams, vaccinations, spay/neutering, medicines, flea/tick/heartworm treatments and preventatives, as well as the creature comforts we provide, are covered exclusively from donations.
We are a relatively small shelter in the scheme of Animal Rescue, but we have a very real impact on the dogs and cats in our care.
The Kingston Animal Shelter has 2 part-time Animal Control Officers: Debra J. Mueller, who is also the Animal Inspector, and Joanna "Jo" Boudreau.
The shelter is also cared for by so many wonderful volunteers, for who without their assistance we would not be able to do what we do.
We are located at 28 Evergreen Street Kingston, MA. Hours of operation are M-F 8:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m. and Sat 9 a.m. to 12 noon. The shelter is closed on Sun. and Holidays. In the event you find a stray or lost dog, the Kingston Animal Shelter has a 24-hour emergency outdoor kennel available for you to bring the displaced animal. If it is after hours, please contact the Kingston Police Dept. and they will notify Animal Control.
