About Us
HAVE A HEART, SAVE A LIFE...
We all know that February is the month of hearts and love; so what better way to show your pet how much you truly love them by ensuring they are protected against heartworm disease. Heatworm disease is transmitted to your dog by an infected mosquito. Once bitten, the infection travels thru your dogs bloodstream, finally reaching the heart causing severe damage or even death if left untreated. Symptons of heatwearm disease can be coughing, sluggishness, difficulty breathing. Some dogs may not even show any outward signs of the disease.
Protecting your dog from heartworm disease is safe, easy and affordable. A few simple ways to ensure your pets are well protected is to give them a monthly heartworm preventative (year-round), and having an annual blood test performed by your veterinarian. Heartworm disease treatment is very costly and 100% preventable. So, for the love of your furry friend, have a heart, the life you save could be theirs.

Adopting an animal may be more involved than you expect. The best interest of the animals in our care is our primary concern. Our goal is for these animals to secure a permanent home.
The first step in the process, is completing an adoption application. Information required may include but not limited to: identification verification, veterinary references for current and/or prior pets in your care; proof of home ownership or written landlord consent permitting animals in/or the property, as well as proven ability to contain the animal to your property.Upon submission of the completed application, all information will be verified.
Kingston Animial Shelter personnel will then accompany individuals interested in adopting a pet into the appropriate animal areas. Our personnel will provide the history and needs of the animal including feeding and exercise requirements necessary. If you are here with your children, please DO NOT lead them to believe you will be adopting, or going home with an animal. The process, depending on personnel availability may take several days. We reserve the right to deny any application without cause.
Adoption Rates:
Kittens: $100 (this includes a spay/neuter deposit) which will be refunded upon presentation of a spay/neuter certificate from the vet.

Your patience and understanding of our adoption policies and procedures are greatly appreciated.
The Kingston Animal Shelter provides temporary housing for stray and/or abandonded dogs and cats in our community, until permanent homes can be found. The Town of Kingston provides the shelter with a small operating budget. However, all expenses related to veterinary care; including medicines, flea/tick/worm treatments and preventatives, as well as the creature comforts we provide, are covered exclusively from donations.
We are a relatively small shelter in the scheme of Animal Rescue, but we have a very real impact on the dogs and cats in our care.
The Kingston Animal Shelter has 2 part-time Animal Control Officers: Debra J. Mueller, who is also the Animal Inspector, and Joanna "Jo" Boudreau.
The shelter is also cared for by so many wonderful volunteers, who without their assistance we would not be able to do what we do.
