About Us

Adopting A Friend

First step is to visit with the dog at the Animal Control Center. Before applying for a dog every member of the household, including other dogs, must meet the dog.

Next, if the entire household is in agreement, an application may be filled out. We do vet checks on existing or prior pets. For qualified applicants, we also do home visits.

The decision is based on what is best for the dog. We may find a family to be potentially great dog owners but still turn them down for a specific dog. It's all about what the dog needs from a family, not what type of dog a family would like.

Who We Are

Friends of Falmouth Dogs began in 1990 with a handful of residents who wanted to help find homes for the stray and abandoned dogs in Falmouth, Massachusetts.

As word spread and more volunteers joined, Friends of Falmouth Dogs was officially formed, a mission statement drafted, and an adoption program created. The group asked the Falmouth selectmen if the volunteers could operate the program out of the town's dog pound and selectmen gave their approval.

Donations over the years have also allowed the Friends of Falmouth Dogs to sponsor spay/neuter clinics, heartworm clinics, and financial help with obedience training.

The Friends are most grateful for the families who have adopted the 1,000 dogs that have passed through the doors since the group began over 20 years ago.

Come Visit Us

We are a little tricky to find, particularly with a GPS unit. We recommend you use the map on our website for the last part of your journey, otherwise you may end up on a dead end street on the wrong side of the highway. We are east of Route 28.

Our address is 150 Blacksmith Shop Road in Falmouth. It is really a long driveway that leads to the wastewater treatment facility and animal control. Our building is the first one on the right. That long driveway is very close to the point where Service Road becomes Blacksmith Shop Road.
