Who We Are
C.A.R.E. South Coast is a non-profit all volunteer organization dedicated to improvingthe lives of abused, abandoned, neglected & stray animals in the South Coast of Massachusetts and elsewhere as space allows.
Cat cuddlers wanted! Take a little time in your day to relax while petting and playing with our shelter cats!!
If you are in our area, stop in and check out our shelter at 596 Hathaway rd. in New Bedford MA. We run on fundraisers and donations. Donations of dry and wet cat food, litter, lines,bleach etc. are always needed! Feel free to make an appointment or drop them off on our porch.
C.A.R.E. South Coast provides many services both to animals and animal owners in the community. We provide:
- Low cost Spay & Neuter as well as vaccination assistance
- Educational programs for children and the community
- A free roaming No-Kill shelter for homeless and needy animals
- Resources for the community to adopt and care for animals
Adopting a friend
CATSAll animals are spayed and neutered, vaccinated against distemper and rabies, FeLV tested, flea treatment and wormed prior to adoption. The adoption fee is $100.00 for a cat 6 months and older, $125.00 for a kitten 6 months and under, $75.00 for a special needs kitty and $5.00 for our senior for a senior program. We are also always looking for barns that will take in fixed and vaccinated feral cats for relocation.
DOGS: We require an adoption application and adoption contract
to adopt any of our lovely dogs.
All prospective adopters must have a pre-placement home visit, so we can observe the dog and family together in the family's environment. We check veterinarian, landlord and personal references. We also require adopters to return to us, so our shelter vet can do the follow-up vet visit/booster shots (no charge for office visit; nominal donation appreciated to cover cost of vaccines). All animals are spayed and neutered, vaccinated against DHPP and rabies, wormed, HW tested, and given 1 month of flea treatment/1 month of heartworm preventative prior to adoption. The adoption fee is between $300.00-$350.00 depending on the dog.

We are an all-volunteer program, so please call before you visit so we can have someone available to greet you - 508.994.0220. We are located at 596 Hathaway Road in New Bedford, MA. Our shelter is a lovely old Victorian home.It's a safe place where cats feel happy and at home while awaiting a forever family.
Cats run and play and learn to interact well with others.
Come and visit and spend some time playing with our cats while you decide which one is right for you and your home.
