Who We Are

The Mansfield Animal Shelter was originally established as a sanctuary for animals brought into the shelter by the Animal Control Officer. Over the years, the volunteers have taken on some of the responsibility of promoting the adoption of all animals brought in whether stray or surrendered pets. When each animal enters the shelter it receives a medical examination by a veterinarian and is kept in quarantine until lab tests prove that no contagious disease is present. Stray animals are not available for adoption for 10 days. This gives owners ample time to claim them. There is a small fee charged when owners come to collect their pets. The shelter uses these fees to feed and care for the animals.

Adopting a friend

Visit our website at http://www.mansfieldshelter.org for complete information on adopting from us, including current adoption fees.

The Adoption Process has evolved from many years of experience. The goal of our adoption counselors is to make a good match between animal and human. We spend time with each animal and get to know it's unique temperament and different needs. We only want the best for both human and animal, so please work with the counselors to find the right pet for you. Many people believe that they can take a new pet home immediately; however, to ensure that good match we've been talking about, it typically takes at least several days to process an adoption application. Be patient! You and your new pet will have many years together.

Rules for Adoption

- You must be 18 years or older

- If you rent, you must have written permission from your landlord - or parent if you are living at home

- Please complete both sides of the adoption form and answer all questions. Our adoption counselors will evaluate the form and will speak with you about your responses. This process may take several days.

- All adoptions must be approved by our adoption counselors. - All required adoption fees must be paid in full at the time of adoption.

- We will provide all medical information that is known about the animal. You become responsible for any veterinarian bills once the animal has been adopted.

- If for any reason, you do not keep the adopted animal, you must return the animal to the Mansfield Animal Shelter.

- You must provide proof that you have spayed or neutered the adopted animal within 60 days of adoption (for animals that are not already spayed or neutered).
