New Arrivals...
We're taking in dogs from Seabrook, NH Wonderland Greyhound Park, MA and Raynham, MA. These dogs are fast...at forgetting track life! They're also quite quick at picking up home life basics in our foster homes. Two are in foster homes with other dogs, cats, and children, and are doing very well with everyone. Please read individual dog descriptions for details!

If you think you'd like to adopt a greyhound but are waiting for the right dog to come along, apply today so you will be ready to bring your dog home when he shows up.

If you would like to help by fostering or volunteering, please fill out a application form or email us. Volunteering is one of the most rewarding activities you can be involved in. We pay vet and many other expenses.

Adopting a Friend...
We have a few wonderful dogs available for adoption. All our dogs are completely vetted. This means that they are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, heartworm tested, treated for fleas and ticks, and dewormed. Additionally, if our dogs need any medical attention, we make sure they get the best care possible.

We foster all our dogs prior to placement. Our experienced foster homes (and their dogs) teach our dogs quite a bit about home life and the outside world before they are adopted. Not only is this a service to our adopters, it is a big help to the dogs! It greatly eases their transition to home life. As a result, most of our dogs are already house broken and know basic manners at the time of placement. Additionally, they may be familiar with children, other breeds of dogs, cats, and the big world out there.

To apply to adopt one of our lovely dogs, please fill out an application form. One of our volunteers will be in touch with you by email and by telephone to discuss adopting a greyhound. Additionally, you may find the information on our website quite useful.

Our application process usually takes about a week.

If you have additional questions, email us at adopt@greyhoundwelfare.org. Email is the quickest way to reach a Greyhound Welfare volunteer.

Greyt Resources... While our greyhounds may not come with instruction manuals, we've unearthed (and created) a number of 'greyt' resources for owners and potential owners alike. Explore and learn and relax, there won't be a test at the end of it all.

  • The answers to a lot of common questions regarding greyhounds and their care in general, as well as what to expect when considering adopting from us.

  • Where you can find dog parks nationally.

  • Considering a raw diet for your dog.

Volunteering and Donations...
Volunteering is probably one of the noblest things one can do, particularly in helping the animals. Please consider joining us in our efforts to rescue retired racing greyhounds - fostering dogs in your home is an undertaking of tremendous value and equal reward.

Of course our volunteer opportunities extend beyond fostering click here for detailed information on volunteer opportunities. No experience is required, bring your enthusiasm and we?ll help you get involved!

Who We Are...
Greyhound Welfare is an all-volunteer 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to the rescue and placement of ex-racing greyhounds. We operate and place dogs in two primary areas, the "Mid-Atlantic," which includes DC, MD, VA, WV, and parts of PA, and in "New England," which includes MA, RI and NH.

Our dogs are housed in foster homes, not in kennels. Foster parents teach them how to start to adjust to life in the world outside race tracks. We help them learn to be housebroken, to get along with all breeds of dogs, and basically socialize them to anything and everything we can! For the most part, this does help their transition into an adoptive home quite a bit.

Our dogs can be visited in their foster homes, and our adopters can speak with the dog's fosters to learn about the dog. We encourage visiting potential dogs before an adopter makes a decision -- and your dogs are welcome to visit too! To keep things sane for our foster homes, we limit visitation to approved adopters.

If you are interested in any of our dogs, or in working with us, apply today!
