Choose to be a HERO!!

Every day is a new opportunity to be the best that you can be; to make the world a better place; to be a HERO. Most of us are ordinary people, but all of us have the ability to be a hero. While there may be no recognition other than your own sense of pride, no act of kindness, generosity or compassion is too small. Whoever or whatever benefits from your selfless act will surely be grateful.

The economic crisis affecting all of us today is having a terrible impact on homeless animals. Shelters are having more animals surrendered due to families having financial difficulties and animals are being found abandoned in vacated residences and worse. If you know of anyone facing the difficult decision of having to give up their pet because they cannot afford to care for them, please make sure they realize that leaving an animal to fend for themselves or behind in a vacated residence is NEVER the answer. Petfinder is a perfect place to locate an organization or person who may be able to help. Or perhaps you, yourself can help. Often times people just need temporary help until they can make appropriate arrangements or get back on their feet. Please find it in your heart to help those in need. Also, if you can make the commitment to volunteer your time, times like these are when your help is needed most.

Despite differences in practices and philosophies, most animal welfare organizations, kill and no-kill, share a common dream...to see the day when no animal dies due to homelessness. Still today, homeless animals continue to be euthanized because there are more animals needing homes than homes and/or shelter/rescue/sanctuary space available. Although we try hard to celebrate the lives that together we have been able to save, it is difficult not to dwell on the ones we have lost. Imagine the torture for a shelter worker who cares for these animals only to see them never make it out the doors of their facility alive and on their way to a wonderful life. The saddest reality of this crisis is that it is Curable and Preventable. Please SPAY and NEUTER your pets and make a LIFETIME COMMITMENT to your animals. If shelters and pounds were only for the desperate, we would be able to say:

"WE SAVED THEM ALL!!!".

Adoption = Saves One Life

Fostering, Sponsoring and Rescue = Saves Countless Lives

Spay & Neuter = Saves Countless Future Lives and can eliminate the killing of unwanted animals by limiting the numbers of animals needing homes.

We are a private sanctuary for animals that have been pulled from death row. We sponsor many animals with many different rescue/shelter groups in order to continue saving lives through others. Please, while you browse petfinder looking for your next best friend, take some time to read the stories that go along with some of these animals, near and far. So many have endured horrific pasts, yet we can give them hope for a better future. Did you know that many groups are able to use donations to pull specific animals? Some groups use donations to reduce adoption/rescue fees to make the animals more financially feasible for lower income families or rescues that have room for the animal but not the funding for medical bills. There are so many different ways that sponsorship and donations save lives. Make sure you investigate any group that you might be interested in helping financially, to ensure that your donation is going to a legitimate group or cause. We get updates and photos of animals that have been saved and rehomed thanks to us. It is a wonderfrul gift...a gift of LIFE.

Becoming a non-profit rescue group requires lots of resources, both physically and financially and is very time consuming. We would be interested in expanding our rescue efforts to include having animals available for adoption but currently do not have the resources. If you would like to help us achieve this goal which would require us to become a non-profit organization and build an isolation facility, please e-mail us at noplacelikehomeanimalsanctuary@yahoo.com. Until those 2 processes are complete, we do not offer animals for adoption.

As you browse petfinder, please take time to read the urgent board and read strories provided about some of these animals. I hope that when you look into their eyes, what you see is potential...not a finished pet. Some of these animals have endured horrors we would rather never know about, but what they all have in common is that they have been abandoned, thrown away, treated as disposable. Some of these animals will need more help making the transition from "throw away" to cherished, unforgettable member of your family. There are more resources available today to help you achieve the best possible relationship with your pet. Please be flexible...willing to ask for help, willing to seek help. These animals have already had it rough and they don't need quitters. They need people committed to finding answers to problems, people committed to figure out solutions. Don't give up. Sometimes the animals that have made us work harder to figure out what works best, have left the most lingering effects on our hearts and souls.
