We continue to succeed at placing animals at our shelter in the very best homes we could hope for.
Who We Are
We are a small town-run shelter that packs a mighty punch. Our Animal Control Officer, Eddy Ramos, enjoys the support of the community and a handful of dedicated, hardworking, and talented volunteers. Our main mission is and has always been the well-being of the animals that make their way to our fine animal shelter. We try to give them all the tools and training they will need to begin their wonderful new lives. Our home-like environment is a peaceful and cozy place for our animals to make their transition into adoptable companions. We pride ourselves for the level of care we give to our charges, be it behavioral, emotional, or health issues. The extraordinary animals in our care teach us something new everyday and help us to be the very best caretakers we can possibly hope to be. We also work tirelessly at matching each animal with the most exceptional homes possible for their particular needs. Our animals' future is our number one priority.
Adopting a Friend
We feel we are masters at placing the right pet in the right home. If you see an animal on our adoption page that you are interested in, please contact us for an Adoption Application. If we do not feel that the animal is a proper match for you and your family, we will gladly put you on a waiting list for future animals that make their way to our shelter. Please do not get discouraged by our policy. We want to make sure that, once the animals in our care leave our shelter, they stay in their new homes for the rest of their lives. Because we are so particular, very few animals have been returned to us and we take great pride in our success rate. We always want to do what is best for the animal and subsequently the new pet owner.
Volunteering and Donations
Anyone wishing to volunteer, who understands and appreciates our mission, is welcome. Please contact the shelter and we will send you a Volunteer Application.
We are grateful for any donations of food and cleaning supplies.
The Healthy Animal in Pembroke, MA at 808 Washington Street has been a tremendous partner in helping us place our animals in the very best homes by referring our animals to their customer base. Please support this phenomenal store which is a fabulous asset to our area and shelter. All the high-quality food we feed to the animals at our shelter is from The Healthy Animal. If you wish to donate food to our shelter, please stop by The Healthy Animal and they will let you know what food we need on a daily basis. Throughout most of the year, we house a cat or kittens at The Healthy Animal waiting for adoption. The kitties get great exposure to lots of people and dogs which makes them highly adoptable and well-socialized kitties for someone to enjoy.
We use all-natural cleaning supplies and will use bleach only when necessary. Our favorite cleansers are the Imus line of cleaning supplies which can be ordered on-line or from Stop & Shop. Our washing machine is a front-loading machine so any natural HE detergents are gratefully accepted.
We have more towels, blankets, sheets and comforters than we could ever use in a lifetime so we are all set in that area.
Cat and dog toys are always a welcome gift and much appreciated. We prefer toys that have been made in the USA, are pet safe, and free of chemicals.
Come Visit Us!
Because we are a small shelter, we do not have set hours for visitors. If you wish to pay us a visit, please call the number below and arrange a time that is convenient for you and our Animal Control Officer, Eddy. Because he is on call throughout the day, Eddy is not always at the shelter during work hours. We and the animals love to have visitors and we will do our best to be available for a visit from you.
