Who We Are

People for Cats was founded 14 years ago by the late Nadia Morgan. Four years ago we opened our Adoption Center where, at last, we have some space to house cats in need of care and homes. Like every town on Cape Cod, Falmouth has too many homeless cats. We supervise several colonies managed using Trap-Neuter-Release, feeding and providing winter shelter. We also support a number of local people who just care for a few strays. We are a true NO-KILL shelter, euthanizing ONLY for the most severe health reasons. We do not ever transfer our kitties to other shelters if they prove hard to adopt. Many cats come to us when owners die or are no longer able to care for them. We have successfully placed over 800 cats and kittens since opening our Center. Our hotline answers over 1000 calls a year. OUR DONORS ARE WONDERFUL, but given the cost of keeping so many kitties warm, fed and given veterinary care, we're always in need. We are a 501 (c)(3) tax-deductible charity, completely dependent on donations. IF YOU CAN'T SEND US A CHECK - look out for our donation cans and put in what you can spare. PEOPLE FOR CATS is a small group of dedicated volunteers with a very large job to do. We are always delighted to see new faces. Many projects are understaffed. If you are in our area, please call Jean @ 617-645-4019. Even an hour a week is valuable to us. Publicity and follow-up phone calls can be done on your schedule. Most of our cats are NOT caged.

Adopting a friend

Adoption Days are Saturday mornings, 10 am to 1 pm and Wednesdays, 4 to 6 pm at our Center on Beagle Lane in East Falmouth. You can always make an appointment at a convenient time to see our adoptable cats by calling our Hot Line Number(508-540-5654) or contacting JOAN at 508-495-1571. Some cats and all young kittens are in foster care with volunteers. Every Friday in the Falmouth Enterprise Joan King's People for Cats column appears. Generally, our fee for an adoption is $100. Older cats have often been altered and given vaccinations and regular veterinary care before coming to us. In some cases, this allows us to reduce our fees. Adopters will need to fill out a questionnaire and be interviewed. Our focus is always on the welfare of the cat, and we must be sure a specific cat will be the right one for a particular adoptive home. We may visit your home to see that all is going well. Followup calls are made a short time after adoption. We INSIST our kitties be returned to US if things aren't working out well for all concerned..
