Pet of the Month

The name Toonces may sound familiar to you. It is the name of the character, Driving Cat, on the Saturday Night Live Show. This little Toonces is a delicate gray and white Shorthair seven year old cat. She has lovely soft-looking markings. She is also declawed. Toonces was surrendered to the shelter because her owner developed bad allergies. She is in excellent health and tested negative for FIV and FeLV. She is a sweet little girl who would prefer being the only cat in the family. She has never been with young children or other animals. Toonces is a lovely cat who will make a wonderful companion, and enhance any home.

Toonces is up to date with routine shots, already house trained, altered

Thanks!

A special big thanks to all the volunteers who walk dogs, clean cat cages, do laundry, medicate the animals, wash the floors, etc. Our volunteers donated 6,500 hours of their time in 2000 to care for the animals and find wonderful homes for them. Without the volunteers there would be no shelter and no means to save those wonderful animals abandoned or surrendered, so we give special thanks to them.

On behalf of all our beautiful furry friends at the Marblehead Shelter, We would like to give a great big thanks to everyone who dropped off gifts for the animals during the holidays. Your generosity is overwhelming and very much appreciated.

We're Proud to Report:

In 2003 we placed 124 cats; 36 kittens; 11 dogs; 2 rabbits; 1 ferret; and 2 cockatiels — a total of 176 animals saved and placed in good homes.

JOIN OUR TEAM!

We are looking for several men and women to join the volunteer team at the shelter. You can work two hours a week or more every week, or every other week. Set your own hours. We need your help. The rewards (read: purrs) are unlimited.

Stop by to complete an application from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday, or from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, or go to our main website and fill out an application on line.

Who We Are

We are truly a no-kill shelter. F.O.M.A.A. is a non-profit organization established by volunteers at the Marblehead Animal Control Office. F.O.M.A.A. was formed in 1993 for the sole purpose of raising funds to provide food, shelter, medical care, and good homes to dozens of animals abandoned each year. All money raised and goods donated are used for this purpose--this is an all-volunteer organization with no paid staff.

Adopting a Friend

We have you make out an application and we interview you. All our cats are tested for FELV and FIV, given a rabies and distemper shot, and spayed or neutered. We take care of any other medical problems if necessary. Dogs are brought up to date on their shots and are spayed or neutered. and we take care of any other medical problems. Our reasonable fees do not cover our costs. Our adoption hours are Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 4 to 6 and Saturdays from 12 to 3.

Volunteering and Donations

We are always in need of additional volunteers to help us. Tasks to be done include: walking dogs, cleaning cat pans and cages, feeding cats, cleaning dog cages, medicating sick animals, laundry, general cleaning of the shelter, assisting with administrative tasks, working with the media, helping out at fund raising events. Volunteers can sign up for a hour a week, a day a week, sporadic visits or whatever fits into the volunteer's schedule. All donations are used for care and feeding of our animals. We welcome donations in honor of a special occasion or in memory of a loved one. A special commemorative card will be sent to acknowledge the donation. Donations of equipment and other miscellanous, useful items are also welcomed. We have a "wish list" of items needed.
