6/25/2009 - We're still waiting for you! Dozer & Nera are 8 year old Bull Mastiff's who are looking for a new "forever" home. Our owner lost her home and cannot have us in an apartment. She had us our whole lives and taught us great manners! We're very quite dogs. WE HAVE BEEN TOGETHER ALL OUR LIVES AND HOPE WE ALWAYS CAN BE! WE WOULD BE LOST WITHOUT EACH OTHER.
We are current on our shots, Heartworm and Rabies and are spayed and neutered. We are EXTREMELY gentle and friendly plus walk well on a lease. We are looking for a home where we will be part of the family. We're crate trained, ride well (sleep) in the car, love everyone we meet.. We like other animals (though not sure what those white tailed big animals are in the woods). We grew up with a cat, and do well with non-aggressive dogs
Our temporary Mom would love to keep us but has too many pets of her own. I'm Nera (FEMALE) and I weight a svelt 110Lbs, (by the way, did I mentiion that I was imported from Australia??? That's why I have the better looks!) and Dozer (MALE) is a body builder who weights 138Lbs. We are presently in a Foster Home with the Ipswich Humane Group, not at the shelter and can be seen by appointment only. If you would like to meet or find out more about us: Call Heidi @ 978-356-4546 or email hjbest@aol.comIf you would like to meet the other pets at the shelter come to our Open House every Sunday from 2PM - 4PM. LARGE ANIMAL RESCUE CLINIC
The Ipswich Humane Group sponsored a 2 day Large Animal Rescue Clinic presented by Nevins Farm. The clinic took place on Thursday October 2nd & Friday October 3rd at Manzano Farm located at 94 Old Right Road in Ipswich.
We had Animal Control Officers from Ipswich, Boxford and Groveland plus Firemen from Ipswich, Rowley, Boxford, North Andover, North Reading and Hopkington. SRH Veterinary Technicians also attended. With such a large population of Horses, Cattle, Llamas, etc. on the North Shore this was an extremely important training if only for safety techniques.
The Ipswich Humane Group purchased the “Sled” and accompanying equipment needed for rescuing Large Animals. This will stay with the Ipswich Animal Control Officer; if needed, Ipswich will be prepared to help.
Our goal is to ensure that all domestic animals in Ipswich are cared for when the need arises. Just as the IHG purchased the “Pet Oxygen Masks” last year for several towns besides Ipswich, we hope the Rescue Sled will also benefit our surrounding boarders.
PLACES WE LIKE
Places we like to frequent around the North Shore.
Wash 'n' Wags in Salisbury, MA is a great place to bring your dog for a "do it yourself" bath. They supply everything and the tubs are GREAT, no bending over and very easy for your pet to walk into themselves!
Who We Are

Caring makes you feel good!
The Ipswich Humane Group, Inc was founded in 1982. The facilities at the Ipswich pound were inadequate and the Animal Control Officer had no relief caring for the animals on weekends or holidays. There was no adoption program for the stray or abandoned cats and dogs and no extra money for medical care.
The group started with two people, no money and no support. However, once people became aware of the effort being made to improve the conditions, we were able to recruit volunteers to give the AC Officer relief on weekends and holidays. Contribution canisters were distributed throughout the town and we collected enough money to purchase a cat cage. Before this, there was no place to put stray cats.
By 1985 the Ipswich Humane Group, Inc. was able to provide veterinary care, build a small addition for cats and attract more volunteers. A successful adoption program was put into place. The "Ipswich Chronical", our local paper, features a "pet" for adoption under the title of "Paw Prints" each week. Soon Ipswich residence would look forward to seeing the article and complain if the photo did not appear. (It became famous for it's St. Patrick?s Day pet whose information was written in Gaelic) This was the year we also became incorporated
Now, twenty seven years later, we still provide veterinary care for the animals and "man" the pound on weekends. To date we have provided homes for over 1800 cats and dogs. Some other highlights of our success include:
- Establishing a spay/neuter program with 4 local Veterinarians including updating rabies and other vaccinations
- Provide assistance to the elderly to enable them to care for their pets
- Established a network of Foster care "parents" for injured, sick, young and "special" pets
- Educate the public through "Fun Pet Shows", dog walks, speaking to elementary classes
- Building of a new animal shelter for the town of Ipswich
- Providing 6 Pet Oxygen Masks to the Town Of Ipswich Fire Department PLUS 6 each to the Fire Departments of Topsfield, Rowley, Essex, Hamilton, Wenham and Georgetown
- Established a Trap-Spay/Neuter-Release program to insure the Feral Cat population in Ipswich stays healthy and stops breeding.
All this was accomplished through dedication, fundraising and endless support from the people of Ipswich. The Ipswich Humane Group, Inc. and the "pets" who have crossed our path are grateful for the support we have received from Ipswich and will continue to be worthy of the trust and generosity they have bestowed us.
Thank you for your interest in the Ipswich Humane Group, Inc.
We LOVE visitors, please feel free to drop by the shelter on Sundays from 2PM to 4PM or call 978-356-6652 to set up an appointment on any other day.
