News:

JUNE IS "ADOPT A SHELTER CAT MONTH"!! At this time of year when local shelters and rescues are over-flowing, there has never been a better time to adopt a new feline family member and let a cat steal your heart.

NOVEMBER IS "ADOPT A SENIOR PET MONTH"!! While the month of November has passed, we encourage you to consider making a mature feline a member of your family. OCTOBER 16, 2008 IS "NATIONAL FERAL CAT DAY"!! While the month of October has passed, please support HCP in our year round efforts to eliminate the free roaming cat overpopulation in a responsible, humane way. Your contribution helps feral cats live safer, healthier lives by providing us with supplies to give our volunteers and enable us to to spread the word about TNR to policymakers — humane societies, animal control agencies, veterinarians, and government officials — as well as the general public. FOSTER HOMES URGENTLY NEEDED!! Now more than ever we are in need of families willing to open their home to a cat in need. Foster care is typically short term -- from a few weeks to a few months. If interested, please e-mail homelesscatproject@verizon.net for more information. TRANSPORTATION NEEDED!! The Homeless Cat Project seeks individuals willing to donate their time -- and gas -- to transport cats from the Springfield area to safe shelters and rescues in Eastern Massachusetts. For more information, please e-mail homelesscatproject@verizon.net. The Homeless Cat Project would like to extend it's gratitude and appreciation to all participating veterinarians and veterinary staff for their continued support and wonderful medical care provided to our cats in need. If any veterinary facility is interested in providing assistance to our program, please e-mail homelesscatproject@verizon.net for further information. The Homeless Cat Project is an all volunteer committee of New England Animal Action, Inc. HCP is a non-profit (501(c)3) organization that is funded through donations by animal lovers like yourself. Your tax-deductible financial support will help us to continue our efforts. HCP has spayed or neutered approximately 7,000 free-roaming cats in the greater Springfield area but many more cats await sterilization. Help us prevent the births of unwanted kittens by making a donation through PayPal or mailing your contribution to the Homeless Cat Project, P.O. Box 80256, Springfiield, MA 01138. To obtain a copy of our quarterly newsletter, Cat Colony Courier, please email homelesscatproject@verizon.net. Thank you for caring!

Who We Are:

The mission of the Homeless Cat Project (HCP), completely staffed by volunteers, is to reduce the number of free-roaming cats by establishing colonies of spayed/neutered, vaccinated felines in appropriate settings. HCP is an approved rescue by the MA Department of Agriculture. Volunteers frequently discover very friendly cats who were apparently abandoned. These cats are placed in HCP's limited foster care program until loving, permanent homes can be found. All adoptable HCP cats are tested for FIV and FeLV, checked for worms, fleas and mites, vaccinated, spayed or neutered and evaluated for temperament prior to placement. Fostering expenses are paid for by volunteers.

Adopting a Feline Friend:

All adoptions are by appointment only. Potential adopters are screened so that we may determine appropriate feline-human matches. All our cats receive full medical, including testing for feline viruses, vaccinations and spay/neuter. A $75.00 adoption donation is requested to assist us in covering veterinary expenses for care that each cat has received. Please e-mail homelesscatproject@verizon.net to request an adoption application and learn more about our adoption policies and procedures. Thank you for your interest!

Wish List:

In addition to monetary donations, the Homeless Cat Project seeks volunteers and foster homes, along with the following items: gas cards, cat food, cat litter, carriers and crates, humane traps, small outdoor structures (such as dog houses) that can be used as shelters, blankets and towels. Thank you for your support!
