Who We Are
Washington Humane Society's mission is to rescue unwanted (stray or feral) cats (and kittens) and dogs (and puppies); to provide them with excellent health care and nutrition; and to find them new homes with compassionate and knowledgeable owners.
Washington Humane Society runs a no-kill shelter for cats and dogs and is a non-profit organization. Since we are a non-profit animal rescue organization, we rely on donations and memberships from individuals and organizations. Please consider becoming a member of the Washington Humane Society.
Jan Applewhite, president of WHS, has been honored by the Humane Society of Louisiana with their Humanitarian of the Year award for her selfless devotion to animal welfare in Washington Parish. She is known as "The Kitty Lady" and has nearly 23 years of community service helping animals in need.
