Sheltie Rescue of Louisiana originated in Southeast Louisiana. We are a small group of volunteers that give of our time, ability and even our homes to help place Shelties where they will be cared for and loved.
Most of the dogs in rescue come from animal shelters where they are disposed of by their owners, or they are picked up as strays. Some are turned over to us by their owners who can no longer, or do not want to care for them.
All the shelties that come into our care are spayed or neutered, tested for heartworms and treated if necessary, and also are current on their shots. We have recently started microchipping the dogs we place into new homes.
All prospective homes are screened carefully so we can be as sure as possible that we are placing the dogs with what we feel to be the proper home for that particular dog. Every home isn't right for every animal, nor is every animal right for every home. We ask for a minimum donation of $250.00 when placing a dog, $350 for a puppy. Any one interested in our dogs is required to fill out an adoption request form and if approved and matched with a pet they will then need to sign an adoption agreement. We have been told that adopting a dog from SRL is about as tough as adopting a child.
This is a big responsibility we have taken upon ourselves and we do take it very seriously.
If you are interested in a rescue dog please feel free to e-mail us and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
