We have just been informed that we need to vacate the house we have been using as a shelter/sanctuary. We must be out by February 21, 2008. We need foster parents and adopters. please call the hotline at 985-652-7722.
We bid farewell to Sabine Carrender, one of our founding members and most recently our Executive Director who has moved out of state. We wish her our best in her new home. Thanks to her for many years of excellent service.
We continue our efforts to provide low-cost spay/neuter. Through community efforts there are several programs available. We are also able to assist people with feral cats. If you are in need of this service please call or e-mail us and we will match you with the best program to meet your needs.
We would also like to express our thanks to several people from different areas over the United States who sent donations as well as to our continued supporters. It means a lot to us and goes directly to the animals care.
We are sure this is not the end of animals coming in, we definitely can use your volunteer work if you are in our area. You also can help by sending a donation for medical care or a membership to :RIVERLANDS SPCA. P.O.BOX 223,LA PLACE, LA 70068. For more information for the New Orleans area contact Sherri at shersims@hotmail.com or for the Baton Rouge area contact Lisa at pepfarms@bellsouth.net.
The Riverlands SPCA was founded in 1993, and placed in the last few years approximately 250+ (500 in 2003) animals per year with the help of the PetsMart stores in Baton Rouge and Metairie and other resources. In 1997 we brought the SNIP van to La Place, which assists people on low income and government assistance to spay and neuter their pets at low cost or for free. Additionally in 1998 we started an area Feral Cat Assistance program. This program traps, spays/neuters, returns about 200 cats a year, where there is a food source available. Some feral kittens are often removed and tamed and then put up for adoption. This program has a big impact on the cat over population in our area.
We are a volunteer organization, no officer or director receives any compensation. We have increased the number of activities and are in desperate need of volunteers. You can help by being a foster parent for a needy cat or dog until a loving permanent home is found. Additionally we need help by transporting animals to veterinarians or adoption sites, for fundraising activities, adoption counseling and publicity efforts.
Note: It costs RSPCA between $85 and $100 to prepare an animal for adoption, not counting, foster care, food, sickness etc. A donation towards vet care is always greatly appreciated - call us about how you can sponsor a pet!
PLEASE NOTE: All animals are fully vetted and observed for temperament and behavior. We are unable to guarantee future health, temperament, or final adult size of any animal.
