Riverlands SPCA would open its doors for you, if it had any! We have NO facility at all. We foster a few animals for adoption and show them most Saturdays at PetCo on Veterans in Metairie. Louisiana.
We continue our efforts to facilitate the spaying/neutering of pet dogs and cats (feral cats, too) by connecting owners/trappers to low-cost s/n programs in the area. Toward that end, we take dogs and cats to Southern Animal Foundation 3-4 days per month. Our efforts have resulted in some 250 spays/neuters in the past year, have prevented the birth of hundreds of unwanted animals, and have even resulted in the adoption of found animals instead of adding them to the parish shelter's intake. If you need this service, please call or e-mail us.
If you wish to adopt an animal, see our Pet List. Also, take a look at the animals at St. John Parish Animal Shelter (also on Petfinder).
We welcome volunteers and donations. (BOX 223,LA PLACE, LA 70069). During November and December, we need volunteers for the bookwrapping fundraiser and for Santa photos (PetCo) For more information for the New Orleans area, contact Betty at bevrtt@att.net. Who We Are
Riverlands SPCA is a non-profit, 501 ( c ) 3 animal welfare agency serving the River Parishes of southeastern Louisiana.>
The Riverlands SPCA was founded in 1993, and placed in the last few years approximately 250+ (500 in 2003) animals per year with the help of the PetsMart stores in Baton Rouge and Metairie and other resources. In 1997 we brought the SNIP van to La Place to assist people on low income and government assistance to spay and neuter their pets at low cost or for free. Additionally in 1998 we started an area Feral Cat Assistance program. This program traps, spays/neuters, returns about 200 cats a year, where there is a food source available. Some feral kittens are often removed and tamed and then put up for adoption. This program has a big impact on the cat over population in our area.
We are a volunteer organization, no officer or director receives any compensation. We have increased the number of activities and are in desperate need of volunteers. You can help by being a foster parent for a needy cat or dog until a loving permanent home is found. Additionally we need help by transporting animals to veterinarians or adoption sites, for fundraising activities, adoption counseling and publicity efforts.
Adopting your new friend
RSPCA's adoption fee is $85, which includes Heartworm testing for dogs, FELV/FIV testing for cats and kittens, initial vaccinations, deworming and spay or neuter. It usually costs RSPCA more than $100 to prepare an animal for adoption, not counting, foster care, food, sickness etc. A donation towards vet care is always greatly appreciated - call us about how you can sponsor a pet!
PLEASE NOTE: All animals are fully vetted and observed for temperament and behavior. We are unable to guarantee future health, temperament, or final adult size of any animal.
