URGENT NOTICE
Please think about donating any old towels or newspapers that you may have to us. We (and our four-legged residents) would appreciate it!

ADOPTIONS
LACC has many wonderful animals available for adoption. As part of the progressive changes happening at the shelter, veterinary care is now provided by a dedicated and full-time veterinarian. Dr. Shelly Liles evaluates all animals available for adoption. They receive a physical exam, deworming, core vaccinations, and Dr. LIles' stamp of approval. Before leaving the shelter, each animal is microchipped and registered to the new owner (or the rescue group who pulls them).

VOLUNTEERING
Our volunteer program is up and running well! We're inviting new volunteers to join us, and we'd love to have you join our team. We have a variety of hands-on activities that volunteers can do: taking the dogs for walks, playing with the cats and kittens, brushing and bathing, photographing the animals for web posting, helping with kennel work, and just spending some valuable one-on-one time with the cats and dogs, kittens and puppies at the shelter while they wait for permanent homes. We're also looking for people to help with administrative support, grant-writing and post-adoption support.

If you're interesting in volunteering with us, or you'd like to know more about our program, please email us at laccvols@gmail.com.
All volunteers must be at least 18 years old and will be asked to complete an application, and to attend a volunteer orientation session.

FOSTER HOMES
We are always looking for FOSTER HOMES for the animals, too! If you would like to being a foster parent to a cat or dog, or would like more information, please email laccvols@gmail.com.
(Please note, this email address is for volunteer information and fostering information only.)

FOR ALL OTHER INQUIRIES:
If you are interested in adopting one of the animals you have seen on the Petfinder site, you are encouraged to go to or call the shelter. We will do our best to answer all emails, but the staff and volunteers are very busy.
If have a question about animals on the site, general animal care, or a situation that you'd like some help with (non-emergency), please email lafayetteanimalcontrol@lafayettegov.net.

Donate a Bed
Our dogs love to sleep on Kuranda Dog beds, but we don't have enough for everyone. If you would like to donate a bed at a special wholesale price for a another dog to sleep in comfort, please donate a Kuranda dog bed.

PLEASE CALL THE SHELTER IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN THE ANIMALS!

We receive a very large volume of email, and we do our very best to respond to them all. If you are emailing about an animal you are interested in adopting, it is a much better idea to contact the shelter directly, or better yet, go to the shelter.

If you are interested in adopting or rescuing one of our animals, please read carefully. The animals that you see at this site were found as lost animals or turned in by their owners who could no longer keep them or no longer wanted them. If you are interested in adoption or rescue, CALL THE CENTER at 337-291-5644 or VISIT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

RESCUE GROUPS:
While we are happy to work with legitimate rescue groups including those from out of state, we cannot arrange transport or boarding. If you are with a rescue group who has not previously worked with this shelter, you must make arrangements in advance with Virginia Lee, the shelter director. Please fax your adoption standards, spay/neuter policy and proof of 501(c)(3) status IN ADVANCE to: 337-291-7051. Due to the paperwork involved, please allow ample time for paperwork to be completed once you go to LACC.
Follow-up documentation from the vet will be required to show proof of spay/neuter within 30 days and rabies shot within 72 hrs. on each animal pulled by your rescue group. Failure to supply proof of spay/neuter and vaccination will result in that rescue no longer being allowed to pull animals from this shelter.

We are a very small facility with a limited amount of space. Out of state adoptions are allowed, but must be done in person, or with the assistance of a local contact or rescue group. We do not do adoptions over the phone and arrange your transport or ship an animal to you.

Save a life - adopt a homeless animal!

ADOPTION FEES
The adoption fees vary for dogs and cats and range from $53 to $68 dollars (CASH PAYMENT ONLY, no credit cards) and includes a certificate for a rabies shot, microchipping of the animal by the shelter and altering by a local veterinarian within Lafayette Parish. We are located off of Interstate 49, Exit 1B - Pont Des Mouton Road (west side of I-49).

About our center...
We are an euthanizing shelter due to over population in our parish (county) and are governed by Emergency Preparedness. We receive many animals into our facility each day. From lost and found pets to strays and pregnant moms, we accept any and all animals who need a home. Unfortunately, due to space limitations, we are not able to house all the animals that pass through our doors. Most do not make it to adoption and are euthanized. We DO NOT offer Pit Bull or Chow dogs for adoption.

The Animal Center does require that all newly adopted pets be examined by a licensed vet within 72 hours. No refunds or exchanges will be considered unless this examination is made. Please remember to bring CASH as LACC does NOT accept credit cards or checks.

Medium to large dogs, especially black and brown ones, and plain tabbies, torties, and black cats are the last to be chosen. Please consider saving the life of one who has little hope.

Surrendering Your Pet:
The animals you are seeing available for adoption are a very small percentage of those who have entered the facility. So please seek an alternative for your pet. There is no guarantee that your pet will be offered for adoption, and there is a very good chance that your pet will be euthanized without being given the opportunity to go to adoption row.

Young, old, cat or dog, we have a pet for you! Come visit us!
