URGENT NOTICE
We always appreciate donations of dog food (any Purina-brand type of food, puppy or adult). Right now, we're running low.... so please think about helping our dogs keep their bellies full this winter.
We can also make great use of any old towels that you have. We (and our four-legged residents) would appreciate it!
We have horses, too! And they go through a lot of hay. If you have extra HAY, and would like to donate some for our horses, please help!
ADOPTIONS
LACC has many wonderful animals available for adoption. As part of progressive changes happening at the shelter, veterinary care is now provided by a dedicated and full-time veterinarian. Dr. Shelly Liles evaluates all animals available for adoption. They receive a physical exam, deworming, and core vaccinations (FVRCP for cats, DAPP and Bordatella for dogs). PLUS a Rabies vaccination if they are over 12 weeks old (for cats and dogs less than 12 weeks old, a $10 Rabies voucher will be issued, to be used when they are old enough to receive the vaccine). Before leaving the shelter, each animal is microchipped and registered to the new owner (or the rescue group who pulls them). Meet the animals at the shelter from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m, Monday through Friday. For more information on adopting, email laccvols@gmail.com.
The animals that you see at this site were found as lost animals or turned in by their owners who could no longer keep them or no longer wanted them. If you are interested in adoption or rescue, CALL THE CENTER at 337-291-5644 or VISIT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
Older animals in general, medium to large dogs, especially black and brown ones, and plain tabbies, torties, and black cats are the last to be chosen. Please consider saving the life of one who has little hope.

LOST PETS
If you've lost your pet, please visit the center in person to check if he or she is there. Due to the number of animals brought or surrendered to the shelter every day, the staff are not always able to match up an animal to a description or even a photo - it's very important that you go in person. And remember to list your lost pet on the LACC parish site.

VOLUNTEERING
Our volunteer program is up and running well! We're inviting new volunteers to join us, and we'd love to have you on our team. We have a variety of hands-on activities that volunteers can do: taking the dogs for walks, playing with the cats and kittens, brushing and bathing, photographing the animals for web posting, helping with kennel work, and just spending some valuable one-on-one time with the cats and dogs, kittens and puppies at the shelter while they wait for permanent homes. We're also looking for people to help with administrative support, grant-writing and post-adoption support.
If you're interesting in volunteering with us, or you'd like to know more about our program, please email us at laccvols@gmail.com. All volunteers must be at least 18 years old and will be asked to complete an application and attend a volunteer orientation session.
FOSTER HOMES
If you're interested in fostering one (or more!) of our animals in your home, or you'd just like some information on what fostering is all about, please email laccvols@gmail.com. We will happily put you in touch with one of the local rescue groups (at this time, the animals cannot be fostered directly for LACC, but we can refer you to rescue groups you can work with).
RESCUE GROUPS
We are very happy to work with legitimate rescue groups (including those from out of state). If you are with a rescue group who has not previously pulled from this shelter, arrangements must be made in advance. LACC will need a copy of your 501(c)3 letter, details of your spay/neuter policy and a copy of your adoption contract. All can be sent via email or fax. Our volunteers can help - please email cathydam@mac.com for more information on the rescue process.
Follow-up documentation from your veterinarian will be required to show proof of spay/neuter within 30 days and Rabies vaccination within 72 hrs. for each animal pulled by your rescue group.
SURRENDERING AN ANIMAL
The animals that you see on this site are a very small percentage of those who have entered the facility. If you cannot keep your pet, please bring him or her to the shelter only as a very last resort. There is no guarantee that any animal, however adorable or well-trained or friendly, will be offered for adoption, and there is a very good chance that your pet will be euthanized without being given the opportunity to go to adoption row. Please note that Pit Bulls and Pit Bull mixes and Chows and Chow mixes are never offered for adoption.
FOR ALL OTHER INQUIRIES:
If have a question about animals on the site, general animal care, or a situation that you'd like some help with (non-emergency), please email lafayetteanimalcontrol@lafayettegov.net.
DONATE A BED!
Our dogs love to sleep on Kuranda Dog beds, but we don't have enough for everyone. If you would like to donate a bed at a special wholesale price for a another dog to sleep in comfort, please donate a Kuranda dog bed.
ABOUT THE CENTER
We are a euthanizing shelter and are governed by Emergency Preparedness. We receive many animals into our facility each day. From lost and found pets to strays and pregnant moms, we accept any and all animals. Due to the number of animals we receive, we are not able to house all the animals that pass through our doors. Most do not make it to adoption and are euthanized. We DO NOT offer Pit Bull or Chow Chow dogs for adoption.
The Animal Center does require that all newly adopted pets be examined by a licensed vet within 72 hours. No refunds or exchanges will be considered unless this examination is made. Please remember to bring CASH as LACC does NOT accept credit cards or checks.
