What Is CAAWS?
The Capital Area Animal Welfare Society (CAAWS) is a non-profit organization committed to the well-being of animals in the Baton Rouge community by providing, facilitating, and promoting spay/neuter, adopting or facilitating the adoption of homeless animals, and teaching the community responsible companion animal ownership and the humane treatment of animals.
Other CAAWS Programs
We promote the spaying/neutering of pets by offering free spays, discount coupons, and vouchers. We run a humane education program for local schools, pet touch therapy, and we have a trap/neuter/release program for feral cats. However our most exciting event is the Krewe of Mutts Parade, where Baton Rouge celebrates Mardi Gras each spring by dressing up their pets, building floats, and marching through downtown tossing beads and treats to parade-goers.
How Do I Adopt An Animal?
Dog adoption hours are from 11:00am to 3:00pm every Saturday at our adoption center. We are located at 6357 Quinn Dr, right near the Old Jefferson and Tiger Bend intersection, close to Airline at Siegen/Sherwood Forest area. Cat adoption hours are 11:00am until 4:00pm at the Petsmart on Airline. We also hold special adoption events throughout the Baton Rouge area (see Upcoming Events). The adoption fee for our animals is $100.
