Do you know someone with a pet that needs to be spay/neutered, and normally could not afford to get it done? SAF has a low cost spay/neuter program on Fridays. Only, by appointment. Please call our clinic at 504-671-8235 and ask about our SPAY LA program. SAF's goal is to reduce the number of unwanted puppies and kittens that end up in our local shelters and on our city streets. Spaying and neutering also makes a happier and healthier pet. Help a family member or a neighbor by sponsoring their pet to be spayed or neutered. Our program really is that affordable!

Towels, towels, and more towels...If you've got 'em, we need 'em! Old ones, torn ones, even stained ones - we use them all. Do you know someone who works in the hotel industry, that may have old towels they throw out? Grab them for us. Towels provide many uses at our clinic and for our shelter animals. We also always need newspapers. Did you know that Southern Animal Foundation is a full service, low cost veterinary clinic AND no-kill rescue organization? Our clinic is open from 8-6 on Monday through Friday, and 8-2 on Saturdays. We offer low cost spay/neuter, vaccination packages, heartworm treatment, microchipping, dental cleanings, and much, much more. Give us a call at 504-671-8235 to set up an appointment today!

Who We Are

Southern Animal Foundation is a no-kill, 501(c)3 non profit, animal rescue and adoption agency established in 1995 and is located in New Orleans, LA. Our purpose is to rescue companion animals abandoned to the city streets who face no other alternative, but a slow, painful death due to heartworms, other diseases, and eventual euthanasia by animal control facilities. We also provide animals with veterinary care including spay/neuter, and foster care homes until the pets are adopted into permanent homes. SAF rescues animals who are in need, due to abandonment, abuse, or medical emergency. We are a no-kill rescue organization that does not euthanize animals due to lack of space or time. We're also home to the Frances McDonough Memorial Clinic - a FULL SERVICE veterinary clinic, offering low-cost services like spay & neuter.

Adopting a Friend

We are always searching for caring people to adopt cats and dogs. SAF is committed to providing our animals with a safe, secure, and comfortable environment until the right individual assumes responsibility as the permanent guardian. While every effort is made to match the right pet with the right home, there is always the possibility that you may feel the relationship is not working. In that case, we insist that the pet is returned to SAF. Our adoption process is very thorough. We believe matching the right person to the right pet is crucial - both for you and them! Call us at (504)671-8235, or visit us on our website. Then, fill out an adoption application. Your application will be reviewed, and if the matchup between you and your new pet is socially and environmentally correct, the adoption process is completed and your pet can get settled in their new home. Please note, our adoption fee for cats is $100, and that covers the spay/neuter, FELV/FIV testing and 3 shots, and a microchip for the cat. The dog adoption fee is $150, which covers the spay/neuter, shots, heartworm test (or treatment) and microchip of the dog.
