BLUE-unusually beautiful BLUE was abandoned by his former family due to divorce. He waited for the kids to come home at the same spot for weeks before being rescued. Although he has no outward signs of being ill; when BLUE went for his routine checkup, shots, and neutering we discovered he was "FIV" positive. He's about 3 years old, super sweet and being fostered by an ANGEL named LORI who has close to 20 other cats by her house.[She also helps feed the feral colonies and is big on TNR. BLUE needs a family or individual that will commit to him and love him as much as he'll love you. Feline "FIV" is not passed to humans [we are immune] and cats only spread it through blood. Behavior like fighting for females, territory and food for example. Once neutered a male [or female] lacks the hormones that promote troubling behavior. And our special boy BLUE has been perfectly behaved, lovable, and eager to meet his special person with his forever home!

Who We Are
RIVER REGION ANIMAL RESCUE is an unpaid ALL VOLUNTEER group. Any and all donations go to the CARE, FEEDING and MEDICAL CARE of the homeless and feral animals in our care. Donations also go to helping needy pet owners take proper care of their animals; so they stay fed and healthy. And don't end up at the shelter.
RIVER REGION ANIMAL RESCUE was formed shortly after Hurricane Katrina by Ellen Head and Sherri Arias. Two independent rescuer's who joined very small amounts of resources with their endless capacity for love, compassion, empathy, and doing what's right for the animals. In the past five+ years countless cat's, dog's, kitten's, puppies and other more exotic creatures have benefited from the attention of our group. Whether it be RESCUE, MEDICAL NEEDS, ADOPTION, TNR, FERAL CAT COLONY MANAGEMENT, FERAL KITTEN/CAT SOCIALIZATION, COMMUNITY OUTREACH and EDUCATION [NEGOTIATIONS etc. too] we're there. Although we'll go anywhere and do, we have developed a special relationship with many of the residents of LINCOLN MANOR [a low-income neighborhood in Kenner, LA.] So much so that some of the children have started an "Animal Camp". We call them our "RESCUE RANGER'S". We've gone on many animal related outings-even something as simple as feeding the feral colonies or visiting the local animal shelter-some a little more involved. But we always try to mix some fun in with the lesson's since just about all of these children are 10 years or under. It's our belief that the kid's care and even though their day-to-day life could easily suck the goodness out of the toughest of them it has'nt yet and being involved with our group has had a positive impact [on the"parents" too]. We constantly promote SPAY/NEUTER and network with other groups and individuals who share the same philosophies . We are members of "THE NO-KILL TASK FORCE" and THE HUMANE SOCIETY"S "RAPID RESPONSE TEAM" among other animal advocacy groups. We have also applied for our 501{c3] non-profit status; so any day now your much needed donations will be Tax-Deductible. While we are very small we could not accomplish anything without our equally small group of dedicated foster parents and volunteers. Please if you are interested in helping out in any capacity PLEASE! contact us by phone or e-mail. The world needs you to help make it a better place! JUST THINK; IF WE WERE NICER TO ANIMAL'S WE'D BE NICER TO PEOPLE TOO- - - -
Adopting a friend
Here at RIVER REGION ANIMAL RESCUE we have many great pets up for adoption. From melt your heart puppies and kittens to grown cats and dogs. If you don't see what you're looking for on this or any of our other sites we can find it for you through our contacts with other Rescue Groups and in particular our local overcrowded "Animal Shelters". Our adoption process is very thorough. We start with a phone interview, a vet. and landlord reference check, a home visit [ and a possible meet your new family member] , we're temporarily foster based so it's often easier to bring the animal to you. We have an ADOPTION APPLICATION to fill out as well as an ADOPTION CONTRACT. These forms cement your commitment to the welfare of your adopted animal and although they cover alot of ground one of the most important we've found is that if the animal does'nt work out for any reason; no questions asked we will take him or her back and work to find a more suitable match. All of our animals are spay/neutered, with age appropriate shots and flea/parasite medication. They are Vet. checked and are as Healthy and Happy as possible. By the time you read this our 501[c3] non-profit status should be approved. We ask the same DONATIONS either way - $75.00 - $150.00 ; depending on the animal and how much medical etc. care it took to rehabilitate the rescue. [of course we're big softies honestly only interested in finding FOREVER HOMES for these poor babies - without going broke-Many of our staff and volunteers are physically/mentally disabled. We can empathize with the suffering, hunger, and homelessness that these animals live with day to day. If you'd like to adopt from us or through us please call ; 504-469-1209 - please leave a message and we'll get right back with you. THANK-YOU!
