Our Featured Pet in December is Andy

Andy is a big, playful affectionate boy. He loves to romp with other dogs, but will always leave (no matter how much fun he is having) to hang out with people. He is still in the klutzy stage and would definitely not be good for a family with toddlers or fragile furnishings. He still knocks things over and trips over his own feet (see Youtube video) but he should grow out of that. He would be a great companion for a teenage boy that likes to be outside. Andy walks well on a leash, likes to nap in his crate and is learning to fetch. We think he is part Mastiff as his feet are huge, but we can't be certain as he was found wandering alone when he was about 6 months old, very thin and timid. But, not anymore. He is loving and confident and ready for a family!

News

December is here upon us. Merry XMAS and please don't forget to bring your pets in when it gets cold outside! We hope to have one more transport this year too the NE in late December. May God Bless Those Who Help Others (both people and pets and strays) Who Cannot Take Care of Themselves!

Who We Are

DHS organized in November 2008 to care for the unwanted and neglected animals of Northeastern Louisiana. There was no organization or even animal control in this area until we formed. We have no facility so all of our animals are cared for by our fosters and we are funded only by donations. We ARE making a difference but we have a LOT to do and we need your help.

Adopting a friend

All of our adoptable pets are housed with foster families. They have been spay/neutered, crate trained, leash trained and if age appropriate, house trained. They have all been living in a family environment so have been evaluated for temperament and personality. We know that to have a happy ending, we have to know what both pet and family need and make sure it is a perfect match.

Come Visit Us!

We have no shelter or other facility in our area, so all of our animals are in foster homes. Most are in the Rayville, La. area. You can see a complete listing of all of our animals at: http://www.thedeltahumanesociety.com

We transport monthly to the northeast rescues and other rescues can use our transport if space is available. For transport information, go to http://www.dhstransports.com.
