The Humane Society of Northwest Louisiana was established in August of 1997 by volunteers to address the concerns and needs of animals in our area. We have a great new facility but funding is desperately needed, as are volunteers! Please help us to establish Northwest Louisiana's only no-kill shelter! We hold adoption events on designated Saturdays each month at Petsmart on Youree Drive in Shreveport from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Our adoption fee is $100.00 for dogs and $50.00 for cats which reimburses us for animal care expenses and medical care. All animals have been checked by a veterinarian and had their first shots. You will be asked to provide the name and phone number of your veterinarian as a reference. You must be 18 years or older to adopt an animal. We reserve the right to deny adoption to any home we deem unsuitable for any reason.
We want to help potential adopters realize how rewarding adopting a rescue dog can be and to help make adoption a bit easier. We do agree that at times it can be challenging but the overall experience is incredibly satisfying. This 100-page book (co-authored with an experienced Veterinarian) shares tips and information on how potential owners can effectively prepare their home and themselves, select the right dog to match their lifestyle, and ease the transition from shelter to home. It also has some really great stories from real adopters sharing the trials and the joys of bringing a rescue dog into their family.
