We are the Lafourche Parish Animal Shelter. The shelter is open Monday thru Friday 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. The animals that you see on this site have been either picked up throughout the Parish or turned in by their owners who could no longer care for them.
The shelter holds stray animals for ONLY 5 days. Animals turned in by their owners do not have to be held for any amount of time. They can be euthanized, adopted, or sent to a rescue group at any time after they are signed over.
The shelter is a great place to find a pet. We have puppies and kittens of all sizes. We often have purebred dogs that are turned in or surrendered.
Adoptions are based primarily on applications. We try to match the animal with the most suitable home.
Please click HERE to fill out our online adoption form.
If your application is approved you sign a contract stating that you will have the animal spayed or neutered within 30 days of adoption for an animal over 6 months of age. If the animal is a puppy or kitten you have until it is 6 months of age. The shelter is currently providing payment for the entire spay/neuter procedure.
The shelter does have a "foster" program where the prospective adopters can take the animal home for up to 1 week and see if it fits in with their lifestyle and family. If the animal is a match then the new adopters come into the shelter and do the official adoption paperwork.
Shelter Staff reserves the right to refuse adoption to anyone.
