DONATIONS NEEDED

Lucia is a sweet pup who was born in December of '08 after her mom was abandoned at a boat launch. Fortunately, a HOPE member found the very pregnant mother and has been caring for her and her puppies. When Lucia was about six-weeks-old, her mother accidentally stepped on her, causing irreparable damage -- one eye had to be surgically removed. Since then, Lucia has battled with numerous infections to the area where her eye once was. She has had to wear a drain on several occasions while taking strong antibiotics to fight infection. This darling pup has been a trooper through it all, and her medical problems have not slowed her down one bit. She is a playful puppy with the best personality. It is not certain if another surgery will be necessary at this time, but if infection continues to be a problem, surgery will be likely. If you would like to contribute to Lucia’s mounting vet costs, please specify donations to "Lucia’s fund." For more information, please email meacat@mobiletel.com. Thank you for your generosity.

About Us

In response to an epidemic of homeless and abandoned pets, the Humane Organization for the Protection and Education for Animals (HOPE for Animals) began approximately thirteen years ago in Thibodaux, Louisiana as a chapter of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. It was later reorganized as HOPE for Animals, Incorporated in April of 1994, and became a federal tax exempt 501 (c) 3 organization in 1998. Since its inception, HOPE for Animals has worked to develop awareness and interest in both animal cruelty issues and overpopulation problems in Lafourche Parish. The organization continues to promote these issues through the local print and broadcast media and through educational campaigns targeted at the Lafourche Parish youth. HOPE for Animals hosts several events each year, all of which promote the humane treatment of animals. Through unparalleled hard work and determination, members of HOPE for Animals have developed a wide-reaching network of temporary shelters for stray and abandoned animals. It houses hundreds of animals each year in the Lafourche, Terrebonne, and Assumption Parish areas. In addition, the group has successfully set up an adoption system, one which finds good homes for many of the same stray and abandoned animals it feeds and cares for.

Adopting a Friend

If there's one thing HOPE never has a shortage of, it's loving animals who need great homes! Of course, before adopting any cat or dog, one should first weigh the costs and benefits, as such a decision should never be taken lightly. Pets are big responsibilities, as they require money, time, and lots of love. HOPE's adoption fee is $60 for cats and $75 for dogs. This includes spay/neuter and initial vaccinations. Potential adopter must complete an adoption application, provide vet references (if a previous or current pet owner), and agree to a home visit. Dogs must have a fenced yard, and cats must live indoors.

Come Visit Us!

Currently, HOPE's meetings are held on the first Wednesday of each month at West Thibodaux Fire Station on the corner of Cedar and Notre Dame on the side of St. Genevieve Catholic School at 6:30 pm. All meetings are open to the public, and anyone interested in animal welfare in our area is more than welcome to attend!
