About Breed RescueThis Purebred Cat Breed Rescue Website has a very specific mission to support Purebred Cat Breed Rescue efforts. Purebred Cat Breed Rescue involves the rescue of both pedigreed cats and "copycats". Purebred Rescue organizations are usually composed of people who are expert in identifying the various breeds of cat and dealing with the specific needs of the breed(s) that they rescue. They aim to not only promote & rescue purebred cats, but also endeavor to place these purebred cats into caring, loving homes for adoption.These Breed Rescue cats may come from Animal Shelters, Humane Societies and sometimes from individuals that have no other resort than to relinquish their pet. Rescues take these cats and have them vet checked for Feline Leukemia and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus Infection, spayed or neutered, vaccinated, wormed and groomed. Rescues provide temporary homes for such cats. In those cases where the rescued cat has previously acquired any problematic attitude or behavior, Rescues work with the animal to correct these problems before placement. In general, Breed Rescuers work with these animals within their own homes, not in shelters. P lease note that many of the Rescuers are cat breeders who care deeply not only for their own breed, but for all breeds and for the randombred cats as well. Rescued cats are NOT used for breeding nor are they available for breeding. We offer many breed rescue listings on this site, and most of these rescues are staffed by caring cat fanciers. In addition, our national Rescue is rooted in the cat fancy and supported by many fanciers and other cat lovers all over the world. We could not do what we do without the support of CFA, TICA and ACFA breeders and exhibitors.
What you can do to help Learn the facts. In far too many cases, people give up animals because they do not understand animals basic behaviors and needs or because of "lifestyle" changes that are beyond their control. Please do help educate others about each species or breed BEFORE they get a pet and caution them to ONLY get a pet if they can honestly commit to that responsibility for the lifetime of the animal. If they are considering buying a whole animal as a pet, please tell them the advantages of spaying or neutering that pet. Only a very few pedigreed cats, as identified by knowledgeable breeders, are likely to contribute to their breed's important health, beauty and temperament characteristics. It is a rare cat that is qualified for a responsible, pedigreed breeding program! If a person is not ready to undertake the increased level of commitment to a breed which that entails, then other options are available that will still allow them the enjoyment of their chosen breed. Please ask them to consider the neutered or spayed rescue cat as one of those options! If you are interested in helping foster or providing a permanent home for a rescued cat, or in other ways supporting or participating in Purebred Rescue efforts, please join us posting on the Purebred Cat Rescue community message board. There are also some specific purebred breed rescue email lists listed on our breed rescue pages that you may want to join and contact if you are interested in purebred cat adoption. For those of you with very large hearts and a wish to help those cats who have the greatest need and the fewest options, please check our listings of Special Needs Cats and Purebred Senior Kittizens. If you cannot foster or adopt, there are also other ways to help purebred cats - you can foster a cat, help transport, spread the word, donate, or adopt a local rescue. You can also help prevent relinquishment and help our military have their cat to come home to by volunteering to foster military-owned cats as part of Operation Noble Foster. Purebred Cat Breed Rescue Purebred Cat Breed Rescue represents the efforts of the organized Cat Fancy to provide a safety net for Purebred cats. Our alliance of cat fanciers, rescuers, and cat lovers has successfully provided safe havens for more than 1900 cats in the last year. We are actively supported by the Cat Fanciers' Association, Inc. (CFA), The International Cat Association, Inc. (TICA) and the American Cat Fanciers Association, Inc. (ACFA), as well as by cat lovers from all over the world. We are a purely nonprofit 501(c)3, all volunteer organization and all donations go directly to help rescue at-risk purebreds - most administrative costs are covered by the cat registries who support us. Every cat we rescue is spayed and neutered before placement, as per our Policies and Procedures. Though we routinely do business as Purebred Cat Breed Rescue, we are incorporated in Minnesota under our original name, CFA Purebred Rescue, Inc., reflecting our early roots in the CFA Purebred Rescue Committee in 1999. Our rescue has been granted charitable 501(c)3 status by the IRS, so all donations are tax deductible. Our activities include working with shelters to arrange rescue of at-risk cats, arranging for and often funding initial and emergency vetting, working with animal control agencies to rescue cats who are at imminent risk of seizure from hoarder and cruelty/neglect situations, and providing and/or coordinating transportation of at-risk cats to safety. We do not take owner relinquishments except in exceptional cases or unless working with animal control authorities. As well as providing a safety net for those purebred cats in shelters all over the country, we often actively work with animal control to take purebred cats at imminent risk of seizure, when the owners consent, from hoarders and other situations of neglect and/or cruelty (and in such cases, we arrange for the vetting and transport to rescues of the non-purebred domestics that may be involved.) In addition to our own rescue foster homes, we are highly networked with purebred and breed rescues, as well as with rescues that take any at-risk cat, especially those who have experience with purebreds. We also operate Operation Noble Foster to provide our military with an alternative to relinquishment if their duty-call means they must leave their cats for a prolonged period of time. NeuterSpay.org provides a searchable database of affordable spay neuter resources as well as information about kitten neuter and spay. This informational Purebred Cat Breed Rescue website serves to educate the public about cats and offers breed rescue listings. It also features a photoboard which allows rescues who do not have websites of their own (or choose to post even if they do) to post available cats and for relinquishing owners to post their purebred cats for adoption. In exceptional cases, such as a new rescue initiative in Slovenia or a hoarder situation where rescues need to be able to see what cats are involved, we do also provide sections for posting of non-purebred domestic cats.
