Who We Are

Small Animal Rescue (SAR) -is a non-profit companion animal rescue and adoption service located in Livingston Parish, LA. We foster and place cats and dogs who have been surrendered by their owners, abandoned, or are at risk of being euthanized by the local animal shelter. We are an all volunteer organization with no paid employees, officers, or directors. 100% of your donation goes toward food, medical and adoption costs of the animals. Your donations allow us to rescue more homeless animals and educate people about the importance of spaying and neutering their pets. Small Animal Rescue has adopted many dogs & cats, kittens and puppies into new homes over the years. However, we can't do it alone. You can help by being a foster parent for a needy cat or dog. Foster care consists of providing a safe, loving home for a homeless pet until a permanent home can be found.

Adopting a friend

Please view pets available for adoption!
We do not have a shelter in the traditional sense of the word. All rescued animals are housed in foster homes where temperament and habits are observed and any necessary medical care is given. Getting to know each animal in a home setting helps us to make better owner-pet matches.

Small Animal Rescue's does ask for an adoption fee to help cover veterninary and sheltering costs. All animals are spayed or neutered or, required to be spayed or neutered once adopted-as mandated by Louisiana Law. The cost to spay and neuter is covered in the adoption fee. All animals are vaccinated and tested for heartworm infections.
NOTE: It costs Small Animal Rescue more than $250.00 per animal to cover just the basic veterinary costs. This does not include the cost of food, housing, cleanup, toys, sickness, ad, adoption day cost, transportation to a new home, etc...This is not CHEAP! Your help is needed to save pet lives!
All animals are screened for general health and temperament prior to placement for adoption. Information is gathered prior to adoption from adopters so that a good match can be made between the animal and its new home.
Please Note: No guarantees or claims are made by Small Animal Rescue covering the health, temperament, or final adult size of any animal adopted. Small Animal Rescue also reserves the right to deny an adoption for any reason.
