A special thanks to those who made the event possible, especially the Meraux Foundation, Shine Productions, the Animal Adoption Society, St. Bernard Parish Animal Control, Friends of the Animal Shelter of St. Bernard, Attaway Trophy Center, Three Dog Bakery, and Jubilee Food Store!
We also want to thank Judy Hoffmeister & Craig Taffaro of the St. Bernard Parish Council, Floyd and Rite Gue, Sheriff Jack Stephens & Sal Gutierrez of the Meraux Foundation Board, and Dr. Peter Perniciaro of the Shelter's Veterinary Advisory Board for attending our event. We were also delighted to see representatives from the St. Tammany Humane Society, SpayLouisiana and German Shepherd Dog Rescue!
And best of all, three kitties were adopted!!
Winners our our "In Search of Sylvia" contest were Lightning (owned by Bruce Bailey, Jr.) for the "Cutest Canine" and Sarge (who is looking for a new home!) for "Sylvia's Spitting Image."
At 8 p.m. on Thursday August 25, Shine will hold a special performance with discounted tickets for $12 at the Flour Power Playhouse, 2101 Paris Road. Sylvia is a tale of empty nesters - a restless husband, Greg, who finds a stray dog (Sylvia) in the park and brings her home to the New York apartment he shares with Kate. This delightful comedy proves that every dog has her day - Sylvia is a dog who knows just how to maximize the 'dog days of summer.'
NOTE: Sylvia is howlingly funny, but does include “Ruff” language, making this a play for adults only. For more information, call the shelter at 504 278-1535 or SHINE Productions @ 277-7469 or 271-9577.
Who We Are
The Joe & Arlene Meraux Foundation Meraux Foundation developed the High Hopes Animal Adoption Center to provide the public with an attractive, convenient location to adopt lifelong companions. High Hopes will be open 11 am until 7 pm Wednesday through Friday and 10 am until 5 pm on Saturdays. Initially housing homeless cats and kittens from the Animal Adoption Society and St. Bernard Parish Animal Control (through their Friends of the Animal Shelter), the Meraux Foundation envisions a storefront adoption center for area dog and cat rescuers to utilize. We can save more animals together than any of us alone.
Animal rescuers are invited to call for information on our "Open Adoption Days" at 279-1320.

The Meraux Foundation has also generously allowed High Hopes to
house a spay/neuter surgery room for Friends of the Animal Shelter
of St. Bernard to continue their Operation CatSNIP.
((We are presently soliciting donations of supplies and
used surgery equipment to get this project off and running.))
