A Tribute to Zeus

Zeus, the first Pit Bull I ever rescued. I pulled him from an area shelter in April of 2002 when he was just 10 months old. He was such a handsome boy and I fell in love the first time I met him. He was so funny and could make me laugh on my worst day.....even when he ate my sofa. Yes, I was a little skeptical like so many people about the breed but I was reassured all was going to be OK when I opened the door to bring him home the first day and he laid out on the floor in fear when the cat greeted him at the door. Zeus loved everyone and everything. Everyone who ever met him fell in love and couldn't believe he was a Pit Bull. He was a true ambassador for the breed and it is because of him that I started American Pit Bull Terrier Rescue. It is because of him that over 250 Pit Bulls have been saved from certain death and rehomed to loving homes. Zeus leaves behind quite a legacy and will be missed by many. He passed away of bone cancer that had spread to his lungs on April 11, 2009. I'm glad I took the chance on giving a "Pit Bull" a second chance at life. I've never known such love, courage, devotion and loyalty from a living being.
American Pit Bull Terrier Resuce is a rescue group formed to be a voice and a safe haven for the very misunderstood, neglected and abused Pit Bull dog breed. We are always looking for individuals who share our love for the Pit Bull breed. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer for American Pit Bull Terrier Rescue, please contact Tammy by email at homes4pits@yahoo.com

Who We Are

American Pit Bull Terrier Rescue, Inc. (APBTR) is an all-volunteer group of individuals dedicated to the rescue and prevention of abuse, neglect, and exploitation of these beautiful, loyal, and fun-loving dogs. Non-profit status pending.

Adopting a friend

Our adoption process begins with an application, followed by call to the Vet reference on the application, and lastly, a home visit to where the dog will be living. Once approved, you will be asked to sign a contract and an adoption fee will be collected. Our adoption fee is not a sale price but a dontation to help offset the medical expenses incurred in getting the dog healthy and ready for adotion. All of our dogs are vaccinated, spayed/neutered, tested and treated as necessary for heartworms and intestinal parasites, and are given monthly heartworm prevention and flea protection.

Come Visit Us!

Our Pit Bulls live in the " foster homes" of volunteers. If you would like to meet one of our Pit Bulls, we can make arrangements for such a meeting. Arrangements can be made by emailing us at homes4pits@yahoo.com
