SPAY/NEUTER HELP - Please make sure that your dogs and cats are "fixed" so they can't add to the overpopulation numbers! If you live in the St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana area, we can help. In addition to their Spay - Neuter Intervention Program (S.N.I.P.) vouchers for low-income pet owners, Friends of the Animal Shelter has several new projects like Operation CatSnip and a Feral Cat Initative. Remember, if you adopt one, you save one - but if you spay one, you can save maybe hundreds! Call us at 504 278-1534 or click here for more information: SNIP
Check Out Our Pets For Adoption
We always have a variety of healthy dogs & cats, puppies & kittens waiting for new homes. Find the love of your life at our shelter! Check out our Pets for Adoption List link for more information on all the dogs and cats at our shelter waiting to be adopted. Included with every adoption is a complete health package: the pet's spay or neuter operation, vaccinations (while in our care), a microchip, worming, feline leukemia testing for cats and heartworm screen for dogs. The veterinarian's visits to complete these services are also included. Resident senior citizens can adopt some pets for a reduced fee.
St. Bernard Parish Animal Control Center is an award
winning animal shelter that is very service oriented. We provide adoptions with full health packages; each adopted pet is microchipped. Thanks to the support of our private auxiliary group - Friends of the Animal Shelter - we are also able to provide many programs that are rarely seen in government run facilities. Since Hurricane Katrina, some programs have been suspended or cut back, but we hope to have all of our pre-Katrina programs back as our residents return.
We still have reduced cost for resident senior citizens (ARF Program),
low cost pet spay or neutering
(S.N.I.P.) for St. Bernard area residents(retirees or those on public assistance may apply to have the fee waived or reduced); Adopt-A-Teacher
which provides humane educational materials at no charge to local classrooms.
The parish government and private citizens have joined together to win the battle of pet overpopulation... together we ARE making a difference... won't you join us?
Making a difference...
Friends of the Animal Shelter of St. Bernard welcomes new members and donations. We feel the tragedy of pet overpopulation can be compared to a burst water pipe in your home. Before you can effectively clean up the mess, you have to turn off the water! While our organization does everything it can to increase adoptions of pets from our shelter, we also sponsor programs and projects that address the root causes of pet overpopulation and abuse. If you *really* care about homeless animals and want to *really* make a difference, please email sbpanimal@aol.com for a free newsletter and information about our different programs and how to join our group. By snailmail, write to Friends at P.O. Box 933, Chalmette, LA 70043. Every specific donation to any of our programs is used 100% by the program designated. No administration fees will ever be deducted from your donation. Friends of the Animal Shelter of St. Bernard doesn't just talk about the tragedy of pet overpopulation, we are actively doing something about it!
Adopting a furry friend
Thanks to participation by all of our area veterinary hospitals, our shelter offers adoptions with complete health packages and guarantees. Included in the adoption fee are vaccinations (while in our care), worming, a microchip, the spay or neuter operation, and the veterinarian's visits to complete all services. Dogs are screened for heartworm and cats are tested for Feline Leukemia. For more information, check out our Adoptions Page
