GRRAND was organized by members of the Greater Louisville Golden Retriever Club to help find homes for displaced Golden Retrievers. We all have Golden Retrievers as family members and not only wanted others to know what a great breed of dog the Golden is, but also to step in and help needy Goldens find good homes.
Golden Retriever Rescue and Adoption of Needy Dogs (GRRAND) takes in abused and abandoned golden retrievers, provides medical care when necessary, and finds adoptive homes for them. Within our first year of rescue we placed 13 dogs into new loving homes. Last year we placed a total of 327 dogs. In the past 11 years we have placed well over 2500 dogs with new loving families.
This is a very labor-intensive job that requires a significant budget for all of the veterinary care, food, and general pet needs. We are staffed by an all-volunteer group that represents a membership that started as a small group of 8 and has progressively grown to a new level of approximately 400 people. All of our funding comes from charitable donations and contributions.
A Devoted family for every Golden Retriever.
Golden Retriever Rescue & Adoption of Needy Dogs (GRRAND) seeks to
significantly reduce the number of homeless or abused Golden Retrievers
through vigorous rescue, rehabilitation, placement, and education programs.

Some of the reasons these Goldens have become displaced are as follows. A family must move, due to a job change or divorce, from a home to an apartment where pets are not allowed. A family may have a new born baby who is allergic to dogs. An owner has become too old to take proper care of their Golden or the owner may have died. The most common story is that the Golden's owner did not realize what an important responsibility it is to raise and care for a Golden. When that little, tiny, cute puppy becomes a large unruly teenager, not everyone is willing to take the time and patience needed to train the Golden.
All of our Goldens have unique stories, but one thing they all have in common is a great big heart. Goldens are wonderful family members. They are intelligent, loving and very social. If you think you could possibly be someone who could share your home with a Golden Retriever, please contact GRRAND at (866)981-2251. We also need people willing to foster Goldens. This is not as great a commitment as adopting a Golden, but every bit as important. Sometimes we are asked to pick up a Golden immediately and a foster home is needed immediately, so that the Golden can be removed from harms way. This also provides us with the opportunity to assess the Golden's needs and personality.
