Not ready to adopt? Won't you sponsor a pet?
We want to find each pet a home. Your contribution toward an animal's spay or
neuter will reduce his adoption fee and give him a much better chance of being
adopted! Please give the gift of life! Send any contribution with the name of
the animal you wish to sponsor, to the shelter at the address below.

The Humane Society
is an independent, non-profit agency in Muhlenberg County Kentucky licensed to
operate an animal shelter. We're currently located in a block building that we
moved into in 1985. The Humane Society is not a department of city or county
government. The county owns the shelter building.
In addition to the Death Row Dogs program there are dogs and cats available for adoption that are housed at our shelter. We're working to list them as well.
Death Row Dog Graduates are as follows: $150.00 for a mixed breed. This covers spay/neuter, DHLPP vaccine, rabies vaccine, heartworm test and heartworm preventative There is an additional charge of $50.00 for any purebred dog in the program bringing the total for a purebred dog to $200.
Due to great amount of interest generated in this program it is STRONGLY recommended that you apply ASAP in order to be considered for adopting one of the graduates from the program. It is also recommended that you list a first and second choice for adoption to increase your chances of adopting one of the dogs. Please list the dog by name and identification number on your application. If you are not selected, please remember that each DRD graduate receives multiple applications and for this reason, we are unable to contact you unless you are selected as the adoptive home. We regret that we cannot allow any potential adopters to visit the prison where the dogs are being trained due to security issues. Please feel free to contact the shelter should you need any further information on any dog listed. We do adopt to out of state/overseas homes but cannot help with transportation. Adopters MUST come in person or select a representative to pick up your new family member at graduation. Only one other person may attend graduation with you and this may not be a child. DRD adoption fees are listed at the bottom of this page. Applications for this program can be downloaded from this page as well. Please mail your application to: MCHS P.O. Box 164 Greenville, KY 42345. Be sure and write the dog's name and ID # at the top of your application before submitting. Donations are needed to help fund this program, also you, as well as those who have adopted through the program have the opportunity to be a DRD Good Will Ambassador by telling all your friends and neighbors about the DRD program.. Please call MCHS to make a tax deductible donation to the program. Volunteers are also needed for the program ( groomers, vets).

The Humane Society receives
limited funds to operate the shelter. As you can imagine, help from you, the public, is needed. No donation is too small. Our strong desire to do more can only be accomplished with the help of donations.
DONATIONS from concerned citizens
like you pay for medical care of sick and injured animals, upkeep of animal
cages, incidental supplies such as food/water bowls, collars, leashes and as you can imagine, the list goes on.
The Humane Society's mission is to provide a clean comfortable shelter for homeless, abused, lost and impounded animals in our community; to place as many of these animals as possible in loving and responsible homes, to investigate complaints of animal abuse/neglect; and to educate the public about responsible care of companion animals. Educating the public about the importance of spay/neuter is our NUMBER ONE GOAL!!!
We welcome out of state adopters. However, we do not arrange transport for adopted animals. Transport services are available through other agencies. All adopters MUST come to the shelter in person to fill out a contract for one of our shelter animals and after their approval as an adopter, pick up their new family member. Our adoption fees for shelter dogs only are as follows: DOGS: $75.00. This includes spay/neuter, Rabies vaccination, and one half off of any testing or additional vaccinations. PUPPIES (Under 3 months of age): $75.00 This covers spay/neuter, which can now be done on juvenile pups. Free health check, any shots or worming are 1/2 off. CATS/KITTENS: $53.00 This covers spay/neuter, rabies shot ,a free health check and 1/2 off any shots or worming.
We welcome volunteers to play with and help socialize the homeless pets! You will not be asked to clean cages, as we have staff for that!
