Meowing for Seniors . . . Free! Are you over the age of 62? Then take advantage of this great special and adopt a cat (age 10-months and up) and we waive the adoption fee! (Limit one adoption per home/applicant. Applicant must be 62 or older and present to adopt. Some exceptions apply; declaw, purebred-mix/longhair). A donation is gratefully appreciated!
Purrs Forever Adopt any kitty age 6-months to 3-years and we’ll take 50% off our adoption fee which is $30 for adults one year and older, and $50 for junior kitties age 6 months to 1 year). Limit two adoptions per home/applicant, some exceptions apply to front declaw/purebred mix/longhaired or polydactyl). Consider making a monetary donation greater than the discounted adoption fee so we can continue to help more kitties.
Purrbaby Special Adopt a kitten (under 6 months of age) for the low fee of $50. It's end of kitten season but we still have kittens needing forever homes! (Siamese, longhaired/Maine-Coon mix: $70).
Double the Purrs - Double the Love Adopt a pair of kittens for $70! You save about $400 in vet costs and get twice the love and fun forever, and kittens love a buddy their age to grow up with! Pair purebred mix/longhaired/polydactyl: $90 (Limit two kittens per home/applicant.)
Free over Three! For any kitty 3-years and older, SCHS is waiving the adoption fee to encourage homes for these wonderful companions! Adult cats have plenty of purrs and love to give, and will not redecorate your home as a kitten might do! Having personalities already established, it's easy to choose and adopt a cat that will fit your home and lifestyle. A monetary donation is gratefully appreciated so more cats can be saved and found homes for! (Limit one adoption per home/applicant).
How and Where to adopt an SCHS Cat or Kitten
Each Saturday about 15 foster kitties are shuttled to PetSmart in Hamburg Pavillion in Lexington where they can be met, cuddled and adopted directly there! Trained counselors are ready to receive your emailed cat adoption application and to work with you to ensure a smooth, efficient and friendly adoption process.
Our foster program is 100% committed to helping those kittens/cats at risk of being euthanized at our county's open-admission animal shelter due to cat overflow and space limitations. When you adopt an SCHS kitty you help us save more cats lives as each adoption allows us the space to rescue more into our foster-adoption program. Adopt an SCHS cat today and save lives!
First and third Saturdays of each month you can come meet adoptable kitties at our SCHS Center in the Indian Acres Shopping Center in Georgetown (Broadway and Pocahontas, located near the Dollar General store).
What We Do
- In cooperation with Kentucky Humane Society and
S.N.I.P. clinic, low-cost and free spay/neuter of cats and dogs happen

appointment. More than 600 cats and dogs benefited from this program!
- Offer FREE spay/neuter for barn, feral
and stray cats in Scott County during monthly clinics run by our
Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) Program. More than 1500 cats have been helped through our TNR Program since 2006! Call (502) 863-3279 for more information and to schedule an appointment.
- Our cat and dog foster-adoption programs place
homeless pets facing euthanasia at our county shelter into volunteers
homes to be fostered. These homes nurture each adoptable cat or dog, address behavior issues and ensure each adoptable pet is FULLY vetted before going to its adoptive home.
- Each Saturday our volunteers are at the Scott
County Animal Shelter from 10AM to 3PM, walking dogs, playing with
kitties and always happy to talk with you about adopting a homeless
pet. The shelter is located at 1185 Cardinal Drive off Hwy 25
North in Georgetown. The shelter is NOT the Scott County Humane
Society.
- SCHS assisted in the passing of a mandatory
spay/neuter ordinance for cats and dogs adopted from Scott County
Animal Shelter, and also supports legislative measures to improve the
condition of state run animal shelters in Kentucky.
- Since 2004, Scott County Humane Society has
participated in the PetSmart Charities "Rescue Waggin'". This program
transports about 20 dogs and puppies each month across the country to
other shelters where they can find homes.
- Our "Kind Kids Program educates children about
proper care and treatment of animals.

Dog and Puppy Adoption
Application
Our dog adoption process is similar to a
matchmaking service. The more
complete you share your information, the more efficient our process
will be for your interest to adopt. We check with past and present vet
references and two personal references, we ask additional questions,
share information with the foster home and arrange a home visit with
the pet (when possible).
Not all applications result in an
adoption, but we try our best to work with each applicant with
consideration to the pet's needs and characteristics. In some cases,
"limitations" according to the pet's personality, ie. with other dogs,
cats, small children, special needs (medical or behavioral) will be in
the forefront as we screen each application being considered for a
particular puppy or dog.
