ROGER
HI! My name is Roger and I am as sweet a coonhound as you will find. I have this wonderful loving personality! I am good with other dogs and I love my people friends too! I'm not sure why I was in the pound or why I was on something the STAR ladies call Death Row. I remember the day they got me out of the pound. I was not sure what was going on or where I was heading but I knew it was going to be a good thing since everyone was so nice to me. I am a young dog and have lots of love to give. Now I am at a kennel and I am still looking for that comfy sofa that I know is somewhere out there just for me to sit on with my new family! UPDATE 2/8: The pound is really full of some nice dogs in need. We have quite a few dogs already vetted and in need of rescue. We need to move some dogs to safety! STAR cannot pull anymore dogs until the dogs that have already been pulled find commitments. We are still dealing with the aftermath of the puppy mill bust and so our resources of gas, cleaning supplies, laundry detergent, and bleach continue to be depleted. The sheer number of dogs has created BIG vet bills. Dogs are STILL in need. STAR is a 501c3 so donations are tax deductible.
The dogs currently on the site with an * in their name are either in foster or boarding and must move right away. We are overwhelmed. We have moved almost 1000 dogs out in 2011 and so far this year the numbers are staggering.

The Rowan County Dog Pound is always full! We need immediate assistance but please do not ask us to hold them for you as we have no foster space and are currently boarding dogs. Email us if you can help STARadoptions@yahoo.com. We answer emails by critical importance. Please be patient.
STAR is not the dog pound. We are a VERY small group of caring people who save pound dogs. Our goal is to get dogs out of the pound and to the safety of a rescue or a new home. We can only help dogs outside the pound when space and funds are available. If you are local you can either give STAR a few weeks to work on placement for your dog or you can take your dog to the pound. We do NOT have a facility and we do NOT have nearly enough foster homes. We work solely on donations. Our STAR email is not answered everyday, please be patient. It may take up to 3 days to return emails.
We can not help these dogs without your support. Please consider making a donation to help STAR help the dogs of Rowan County.

Who We Are
STAR, Saving the Animals of Rowan is a 501c3 organization committed to improving the conditions for the abandoned dogs of Rowan County, KY. Our few members work to find safe and loving homes or rescues for dogs that find themselves in the Rowan County Dog Pound. STAR members are dedicated to reducing the number of dogs euthanized due to the overcrowded conditions of this rural shelter. We do NOT have enough foster homes. Please consider providing a temporary home for a puppy or dog that is up for adoption. Send us an email if you have a safe place to foster a dog for a week or two. We need more community help if we are to continue this life saving work!

Adopting a friend
Adopting a dog is a commitment. Dogs need fresh food, water, and safe environment, and you. No dog should ever be chained nor should it be expected to "know the rules." As a responsible pet owner we must help our new four-legged friend understand what good manners include. Before adopting a puppy or dog make sure that all family members are in agreement and will contribute to the care and training of your new family member. Dogs that are adopted at the pound will be given their first shot. The adoption fee ($50) includes a rabies vaccination and spay/neuter (required for all adoptions). If you adopt your dog through STAR the adoption cost is equal to the cost of the pound fee plus any veterinarian care required to provide you with a healthy animal. STAR adoptions are subject to approval via references and home visits.
Come Visit Us!
STAR works with the Rowan County Canine Shelter but we are NOT the dog pound so check the site to see who is still at the pound! The Rowan County Canine Shelter is located on Bullfork Road, west of Morehead, KY off Route 60. New hours are Mon - Thur 9am to 3pm and Saturday 10am to 3pm. The Shelter is closed on Friday and Sunday.
Responsible pet owners are welcome: please do not condemn your dog to a life on a chain. Chaining a dog 24/7 is cruel.
