WHAT WE OFFER?

We are trainers who rescue dogs from high kill shelters and place them either in the working or service world as Dogs with Jobs. Not only does this rescue effort save an otherwise disposed of animal but it serves a secondary purpose, and that is the rescued dog then is utilized to enhance the lives of those around him or her with his or her own learned special skills once our trainers are done working with the dog.

SERVICE DOGS

are a large part of our lives here. To qualify for a service dog, according to the ADA (the law on service dogs) an individual must have a disability which can be enhanced by the use of a service dog. Some examples of service dogs provided here are but not limited to:

Mobility Assistance Wheelchair, Neuropathy Assistance, Autism Assistance, Psychological Disorder Assistance, Seizure Alert/Response and Glucose Alert/Response. In accordance with the ADA, a service dog can accompany their handler/owner anywhere as long as they behave and are handled appropriately and are providing a service to their person, including but not limited to restaurants, banks, doctors offices, grocery stores, busses, taxis, or any place else people are cordially allowed to go.

WORKING DOGS

produced here at Kentucky Working K-9 are as follows: Narcotics Detection, Contraband Detection, Tracking, Search & Rescue, Cadeavor, Area Guard, Handler Protection, Herding, and any other environment which utilizes a working dog

THERAPY DOGS

are also trained here at KWCA. Therapy dogs assist people emotionally, offer comfort in times of fear, dread, medical challenge, lonliness or other situation where people just need a cheering up. Therapy dogs are not fully public accesable dogs but can be a very useful tool in many areas including but not limited to Hospitals, Nursing Homes, Children's Institutes, Occupational Therapy, Schools, or any other place that you would note the presence of one of these sweet canine friends would be a blessing. Kentucky Working Canine Association is expanding its services to all 50 states for the purpose of rehabilitiation, service and therapy training programs. It is my goal to utilize my talent with the special training skills I have practiced for over 20 years to both place productive working dogs back into our law enforcement and working environment and to enhance the lives of the people around me with disabilities through the use of service dogs.

Kentucky Working Canine Association & Rescue still reserves the right to refuse anyone based upon any information written or otherwise discovered that might harbor the wrong environment for one of our dogs.

WHO WE ARE...

Kentucky Working K-9 Association - Rehabilitation & Rescue is an organization that is compiled of different trainers with certain strengths in the dog world which attempts to access all possibilities and we network with other agencies to get you the right dog for the right job. All of our dogs are second hand dogs. We get them from high kill shelters where often they are placed by their owners because they are too high drive (energy) for the ordinary person to handle due to the fact that they posess skills and grit needed to conform to either a working or a service dog lifestyle. Sometimes we have folks call up and place their dogs with us instead of taking them to a kill shelter. We as trainers have the capabilities to mold those dogs into career minded K-9's with a certain and meaningful future and that's what its all about here at KWCA, dog has lost the role as Man's Best Friend, we are PUTTING IT BACK ONE DOG AT A TIME!

HOW THE ADOPTION PROCESS WORKS

If you saw a dog on our site today that you like, please let me know you are interested, and if you did NOT see the particular dog you need, let me know anyway, NOT ALL OF OUR AVAILABLE DOGS ARE LISTED at all times due the fact we stay so busy with the dogs in general. If you email me please follow through with a telephone call if you do not get a response within 24 hours as emails are not always 100% accurate and reliable. Phone calls are preferred and the telephone is answered Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. CST by a representative of Kentucky Working Canine. APPLICATIONS ARE FREE. I will either take your application over the phone, email it, fax it or snail mail you one along with any other information you would like regarding our dogs. When the application process is completed and once you are approved and have met the dog and all goes well there is a handlers course given by the very trainer who trained your dog and that is required for the owner so that the dog continues to respond properly once he or she goes home with you. The basic time frame for a handlers course can vary based upon individual dogs and handlers. The adoption can be finalized at the end of the handlers course and the dog will then visit the groomer for a comprehensive grooming and frontline prior to leaving, then he or she is ready to go home with you.

COME VISIT US!

We spend a great deal of time training the dogs and would be happy to have a visit from you but would need a phone call first to let us know you are coming so we can schedule time to visit.
