 | EMERGENCY HELP NEEDEDKICHI A 5 YEAR OLD SHARPEI WAS LEFT ABANDONED AND STARVING ON A CHAIN. A NICE LADY STOPPED AND LEFT WATER AND FOOD FOR HIM FOR MONTHS BUT WAS AFRAID OF HIM. EVENTUALLY, SHE GAINED HIS TRUST, GOT HIM OFF OF HIS CHAIN, THEN PLACED HIM IN ONE OF HER GOAT PENS AND SEARCHED FOR HELP. OUR VET PUT HER IN CONTACT US AND KICHI HAS BEEN WITH US EVER SINCE. AT 11 PM ON FRIDAY THE 23RD OF APRIL 2010, POOR KICHI CAME DOWN WITH BLOAT (GASTRIC TORSION) . AFTER CONTACTING VETS IN OUR SMALL TOWN AND FINDING NO ONE AVAILABLE, WE RUSHED TO LEXINGTON TO THE AA EMERGENCY HOSPITAL WHERE HE RECEIVED SURGERY. HIS BILL SO FAR IS $6400 AND WE DESPERATELY NEED HELP ......WE WILL LEAVE THIS PLEA FOR HELP UP UNTIL WE CAN COVER HIS BILL, AT THAT TIME, WE WILL TAKE DOWN .....PLEASE HELP US, WE WORK ENTIRELY ON DONATIONS AND VOLUNTEERS AND RECEIVE NO FUNDING. If an irresponsible pet owner drops an animal at our rescue it will likely be turned over to the local Humane Society. An animal that is just dropped at the shelter runs the risk of being hit by a car, being attacked by wildlife or dying of starvation because it is too terrified to show itself.
Any animal not relinquished by their owner (strays, presumed strays, animals picked up because they are in a dangerous situation such as wondering animals likely to be hit by a car or outside in inclement weather, animals dropped at the shelter that are not immediately turned over to the local Humane Society) is placed on hold for seven days in order for their owner to claim the pet. We post "found" dogs and cats on our site with a date they will be released for adoption. We register all "found" dogs and cats with the local Humane Society in case the owner checks with them (as all owners should). We also watch for "Lost" posters and ads in the local newspaper. If an owner is found the dog or cat is turned over to the local Humane Society for the owner to claim.
