Update --- 4/2/08
The petfinder site is being updated almost daily so it is very curent. We intend to start adding the euthanasia date to each Urgent dog's profile. We hope this will give each dog facing euthanasia the best chance at finding a last minute angel to take them into rescue.
Adopting or rescuing
If you would like to adopt or are interested in rescuing please contact us as soon as possible and we will work with you to help the animals. If you are a new rescue group who has never worked with use before, please include a vet reference phone number and brief statement about you spay/neuter and adoption policies so we can get you on our approved list.
As usual, the shelter is overflowing with wonderful dogs and cats, and simply no space to put them all. If you would like to adopt a terrific pet and save a life, there's never been a better time! The listings are being kept pretty current thanks a hard working Harlan staffer, so you can see exactly who is here and needing help. FYI: We have regular transports in several directions. Ask about them, if you are an approved rescue group and want to help a dog but have no way to get it to you.
Important: IF AN ANIMAL HAS "RESCUE PENDING" IN ITS LISTING THAT MEANS A RESCUE GROUP OR ADOPTER HAS COMMITTED TO THAT ANIMAL, HAS A PLAN AND DATE FOR PICK UP, AND THAT ANIMAL IS NOW SAFE.
SADLY MANY OF OUR ANIMALS ARE NOT YET SO LUCKY, PLEASE SEE IF ANY OF THEM ARE WHAT YOU HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR.
We really need donations of Revolution to treat mange.

Following donations are always needed and greatly appreciated:
- towels
- blankets
- kitty litter
- puppy food
- cleaning supplies
- Old crates, with or without doors (we're making warm and snugly "indoor dog houses" for the kennels!)
We use Patented Kuranda Dog Beds because they are durable, chew proof and easy to clean. If you would like to donate a bed to us, click here.
Adopting and Fostering a Harlan County Animal
If you would like to adopt or foster a Harlan county dog, please email harlanshelter@gmail.com.
We DO NOT SHIP DOGS. We are happy to adopt animals out to loving homes from out of state, however you need to have a plan to get your new pet. Please do not contact us and ask us to ship or drive your puppy to you.
Thank you for your help!
