Simpson County Animal Shelter
Pet of the Month ~ Grayson & Tippi ~
Grayson and his mom Tippi (not pictured here) have been with us since 07/18, so we are praying we find a forever home soon for them!! Grayson is full of energy and ready to play. He is very attached to his mom (Tippi) and we will offer a great adoption rate to an adopter if they are willing to give both of them a home. Grayson is about 5 months old and has been at the shelter for awhile. He is just wondering where his new family is! He is neutered and ready to go home and play!
The Simpson County Animal Shelter is open for adoptions Wednesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (closed for lunch from 12:00 to 1:00pm).
We are FULL of cats and kittens looking for their forever homes! Please come in and adopt today! Help us save a life and adopt a shelter cat today. Cats are $50.00 and kittens are $60.00 and will be spayed/neutered and given whatever vaccines are age appropriate.
Friends of the Shelter is now contracted with Simpson County to handle all adoptions and rescues of animals from the Simpson County Animal Shelter. Our group does NOT take in animals. We work with the Simpson County Shelter to find homes and rescue for the animals brought to the shelter. The Simpson County Shelter only takes in animals from residents of Simpson County and/or City of Franklin, KY. Friends has a shelter manager who works at the Simpson County Animal Shelter on Wednesday through Saturday from 10 AM - 5 PM closed for lunch from 12:00-1:00. So come by and help socialize some puppies, walk some dogs, adopt your next best friend or help give our kitty cats some TLC!
What Every Responsible Pet Owner Should Do to Help Us Save Lives
Spay and neuter your pet! In addition to saving lives, spaying and neutering can also drastically improve your pet's health and life expectancy. The idea that pets become fat or lazy when they are spayed or neutered is a myth. Sterilized pets lead healthier, longer lives. Spaying a female eliminates the possibility of uterine and ovarian cancer and greatly reduces the risk of breast cancer. Neutering a male reduces the risk of both prostate enlargement and prostate cancer. Neutering also will make your pet more affectionate and less likely to roam, get in fights, or become lost.
Do you know that for every child born today there will be 15 dogs and 45 cats born as well? This is why it is so important to have your cat/dog sterilized! This over-population leads to the death and suffering of many animals every day. It can be prevented...and YOU can help. If you have a pet get them sterilized...please! And if you don't have a pet but are looking...you're on the right track! A rescue or shelter is the way to go, please help put puppy mills out of business by avoiding pet store purchases!!!
Who We Are
We are a very small all-volunteer NON-PROFIT organization (501c3) and we survive soley on the basis of donations from caring people who want to help us help the animals at our community shelter. Our new shelter as we like to call it, was opened in July 2005 and we are always in need of monetary and product donations. All donations are tax deductible and receipts are given upon request, as we are a non-profit 501c3 organization.
We are working with The Fix Foundation (another 501c3) to bring a low cost spay/neuter clinic to our community. We are currently raising money to help build a small building. All donations are tax deductible. It is our goal to help keep our shelter population low with an aggressive spay/neuter program, help the community and work with other rescue groups. The city has just donated an acre of land next door to the shelter to help us achieve our goals! We are now getting ready to break ground!
We need your help to make this a successful shelter. Volunteers are always needed for many jobs. Foster homes are always needed, walking dogs, playing with cats, and fundraising events are all areas where help is needed. If you are interested, please email: friendsofshelter@yahoo.com or call 270-776-2507.

ADOPTION INFORMATION
All pets will be spayed or neutered before going home! Our adoption fees are $75.00 for dogs/puppies and $60.00 for kittens and $50.00 for adult cats. This covers the spay or neuter surgery, first set of shots, deworming and rabies vaccination.
The first step towards adopting is an application which is required. For those living in rental dwellings we will contact your landlord to make sure they accept pets as we would hate to have that pet end up brought back or worse kicked out in the streets because the landlord found out. We would prefer that all of our dogs go to homes that have fenced yards but if that is not possible then an indoor home where the dog is taken out for many walks during the day is also just fine. We welcome out of state adopters; however, we do not arrange transport for adopted animals nor do we ship our animals at this time. If you live out of state and are interested in one of our pets we urge you to try and find a loving pet closer to home OR if you plan to drive here to pick up your pet then go ahead and ask for an application and we will be more than happy to work with you. We just do not have the resources both financially and personnel wise to be able to facilitate long distance transports and/or shipping our animals.
