Babe!

Babe is a victim of Beagle Season! She was found wandering along Mountain Parkway in eastern Kentucky. She was literally COVERED in what we now know were seed ticks, thousands of them. It took our veterinarian's staff almost 2 days to remove them all from her, and by the time they were finished, she was anemic from the blood loss. It was simply incredible to see the amount of ticks that can cover an animals body. To learn about ticks, Click here

She is well, has been tested for all of those nasty diseases that ticks carry and is now looking for her forever home. She is spayed, Vaccinated, heart worm checked, wormed and house broken and crate trained. She is a beagle so safe and secure fencing would be a necessity. If you are looking for the perfect beagle baby, Babe is just the dog for you.

Lola and Bo Need a Home!

First

Lola! I am a tail wagging machine. I am one of the happiest dogs you are ever going to meet even if you live forever! I am a mellow girl who loves to cuddle. I do not like loud sounds and am working on my manners. I will ‘sit’…and of course, snuggle. I will even try to sit on your lap because I love to be close to people…and to snuggle! I think I weigh about 50 pounds…or slightly more than a very large bag of dog chow!

Next

Bo (Buster) I am a sweet goofy boy who likes to make a happy welcome home howl when my family comes back to the pack after work. I weigh around 55 pounds but am not the kind of guy who gets caught up on all that weight business. I am a very smart boy who is learning some thing every day. So far, I have figured out sit, heel and am working on stay and hand shakes (though in dog world, I find hand shakes are way overrated compared to butt sniffs)! Oh yes, I like to do a classic downward dog yoga stretch before coming down the stairs of my foster home. I could teach it to you!

LOVE FROM LOLA AND BO! buds to the end......

Meet Winkin!

Adopting One of Our Pets.

We charge an adoption fee for all of our pets. We strongly believe that something free may not be valued highly. Most of our animals come from rural shelters and are on euthanasia lists. All pets are spay/neutered and brought current on shots before adoption. Dogs are heartworm tested if they are old enough. Generally our fees are $80 for cats and $200 for dogs.

We also require an adoption application be completed with references, most notably a a vet reference. We also perform a home visit when possible, at the applicant's convenience. We try to find the best possible match for the pet and the applicant so that everyone is happy. Just providing shelter, food and water is not enough. We do not adopt any dogs to be yard alarms, or strictly outside animals. We are looking for inside homes, and families that want a new member to actually be a participating part of the family, for all of our rescues.

A Statement From Forever Home Rescue and Sanctuary

The economic collapse has rippled down to the pet population well beyond our expectations. Between foreclosures and families unable to financially care for their animals, FHRS is at 100%+ capacity.

Shelters have been inundated with animals from owners that are losing their homes and have nowhere else to take their beloved pets. Unless we find additional foster homes we are forced to turn away highly adoptable animals because we have only so much space, a heartbreaking choice. We do not euthanize animals for space so we are limited to the number of animals we can take in.

Without the support of a foster network, we lose the opportunity to save those very adoptable animals that are being taken to the shelters. Would you consider fostering a needy dog or cat? All these sadly displaced animals ask for is a safe haven and loving touch until they can find their forever homes. You provide the love, we provide the food and the vetting. If you are willing to be a foster family, please email hissking@yahoo.com If you are a former FHRS adopter, please make a note of that in the email.

95% of cat owners admit they talk to their cats.

A cat can jump as much as seven times its height.
A cat cannot see directly under its nose.
This is why the cat cannot seem to find tidbits on the floor.
A cat in a hurry can sprint at about thirty-one miles per hour.

A cat's brain is more similar to a humans brain than that of a dog.
A cat's hearing rates as one of the top in the animal kingdom. Cats can hear sounds as high-pitched as 65 kHz; a humans hearing stops at just 20 kHz.
