Pet of The Week: RED. Red is a terrific little beagle guy that sadly has very little time left at the shelter. He has a GREAT attitude and would love to meet you.

Our Mission

Bullitt County Animal Rescue is a non-profit, entirely volunteer organization. It was formed for the purpose of working with the County and Community to control and maintain the issue of unwanted, stray, abused and neglected animals while increasing education and availability of spay/neuter services and responsible pet ownership. Ways of helping to accomplish this will be helping animals in Bullitt County that are homeless or soon to be homeless. Offering food, shelter and training for the animals in our care until loving homes can be found for them. Seeking applications for and screening permanent homes for the adoption of these animals. Reuniting lost pets with their owners. Offering training and support to owners to make it possible for their companion animals to remain in their homes. Helping to arrange for spay/neuter as well as other veterinary care found necessary. Offering transportation, and when available, funds for these services. This effort will take the participation of the entire community working together. We are a non-profit pending organization. Therefore, our capabilities will rely completely on volunteers and contributions to this effort. By working together with our local community and Government we can accomplish these goals. I truly believe in the motto ?One person cannot do everything, but one person can do something.? And each persons that contributes to this, whether it be a donation, flyers made and posted, or a phone call made will make the mission that much more successful. It is our County and these are our animals. Together we can do something about it that we can all be proud of.

Adopting a friend

To make one of these babies a part of your family you will first need to fill out an Adoption Application. We process these immediately and strive for a 24-48 hour turn around on screenings. Once accepted, at the time of adoption, you will also sign an adoption contract. We do require the animals to be turned back into BCAR if, for any reason, the adoption does not work out. Our animals are adopted out for a price reflecting their required vet care costs. All dogs at the county shelter have an adoption fee of $100. This includes an altered animal or a spay/neuter voucher(to be performed no later than 30 days after adoption), a current rabies or rabies vaccine voucher, a free grooming, a free Basic Obedience training DVD, a bag of Science Diet dog food, a county pet license, and an engraved ID tag. Cat adoptions are $50 and include a spay/neuter voucher, a rabies vaccine voucher, a bag of Science Diet cat food, and an engraved ID tag. All animals have up to date booster shots and have been wormed. *Adoption fees for animals in foster homes may vary depending on breed and what vetting has been done. Micro-chipping is available for an additional $25.00. FELV/FIV testing will be done upon request for an additional $25.
