Who We Are
Founded in 2001, Friends of the Bell County Animal Shelter,Inc. has one primary purpose-to reduce the number of homeless, unwanted and uncared for animals in Bell County.
Friends of the Shelter members work to achieve this purpose by focusing on three main objectives:- Encourage spaying and neutering
- Promote responsible pet ownership
- Support the Bell County Dog Pound
Since our inception, over 300 dogs and cats have been spayed/neutered thru programs offered at low or no cost. 600 children received training in dog bite prevention thru lessons sponsored by Friends of the Shelter, Bell County Health Department and the Cooperative Extension Service. In the summer of 2003, we are beginning to provide foster homes and permanent placement (adoption) for shelter and rescue dogs and cats.
Friends of the Shelter is a non-profit organization dependent on philanthropic support.
Adopting a friend
Contact us by phone or email to discuss your situation and see if we have the perfect match for you. We will conduct an on line adoption interview and have you sign an adoption contract. All adoptions include spay/neuter surgery, mild de-worming, negative heartworm or feline leukemia test, up-to-date shots, a veterinary exam. The fee to adopt an animal is $60.00, which also includes a Ky. dog license.
