Our Featured Pet.. A neighbor's call brought law enforcement to the scene of a puppy shooting spree. The owner's female Beagle had whelped a month earlier and he no longer wanted the puppies. Instead of taking the unwanted puppies to the shelter, he began shooting them as they scrambled for hiding places. The prompt response of the Grant County Sheriff and his deputies resulted in the rescue of three frightened, trembling little puppies, while others had been shot to death.
Upon arrival at the shelter, one of the helpless puppies was discovered to have a bullet lodged in his neck. Thanks to the careful attention of the shelter director, Jeremy Souder, and a volunteer who paid for ememgency veterinary care, the traumatized little Beagle survived. Exhibiting a strong will to live earned him the name, SPIRIT. Please take a look at SPIRIT and know there are others just like him who come to the shelter daily. All of them may not have suffered the exact same trauma as SPIRIT, but they all need a permanent, loving forever home.

Who We Are
The Grant County Animal Shelter takes abandoned, abused, stray, and otherwise unwanted dogs and cats and attempts to place them in loving forever homes. We rely increasingly on rescues and volunteers to avoid having to euthanize our dogs and cats. If you would like to rescue a dog or cat to adopt or maybe just foster one until it finds its forever home, please call the shelter.
Supplies such as toys, treats, leashes and collars, shampoo, medications are always needed.
In addition, the shelter is currently raising money for two great projects - construction of a puppy quarantine building where the shelter can segregate puppies from the general population until we can be sure the puppies are healthy and ready to go to their forever homes; and purchase of a FEMA trailer to assist Grant County in responding to local emergencies, providing a place to hold displaced pets, mobile adoption fairs, and other events.
To donate money or supplies to assist in these worthy projects, please contact the shelter. Donations can be made to the Friends of the Grant County Animal Shelter, a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization whose sole purpose is to support the activities of the Grant County Animal Shelter. Donations to the Friends of the Grant County Animal Shelter are tax-deductible.
