 Who We Are

The Shamrock Foundation is a non-profit organization whose mission is to end pet overpopulation, reduce the number of companion animals destroyed in local shelters, and to save or enhance the lives of animals in need in our community. This is accomplished through spay/neuter, education, emergency medical assistance, rescue, foster care, and the adoption of pets into loving lifetime homes. We are a group of highly committed volunteers who have a passion for our mission and its goals.

Adopting a dog (scroll down for cat information)

We receive many emails about how someone goes about adopting a dog through the Shamrock Foundation. Here are a few simple pointers that should help answer some of your questions.

Selecting a Dog

First look at the dogs on our website to find the ones you are interested in. Then complete the simple application on our website and email it to us at adoptions@shamrockpets.com. If the application will not work, just email us the information from the app. (You will get a faster response with an email than going through voice mail.) We will make sure the dog is coming to our next adoption day or arrange to make the dog available for a visit and let you know where you can see him. We do not have a building or kennel.

We highly recommend that you come to our adoption days on Friday nights to see the dogs and to speak with our volunteers. We work hard to match the dog to the right family so it is helpful if we can meet everyone and steer you to just the right dog for you. Processing an application includes checking your references and talking to your vet (it can take anywhere from a few hours to a week for us to process an application). .

Trial Visit

Once you've found a dog that you are interested in and your application is approved we proceed with the contract. The adoption fee is $125.00. That covers the spay/neuter, worming, shots and microchipping. The first 2 weeks are considered a trial to make sure he is a good fit in your household. You can return him to us during the first 2 weeks and we will return your money or tear up your check. We recommend that you start the trial visit on a weekend so that you can maximize the amount of time you are home with the dog.

If the adoption doesn't work out after you have had the dog for a while we require that you work with us to find a new home for your dog. We cannot take him back at that point; you must hold onto him until we find him a new home. If you find someone who wants him we need to have their information so we know where he is.

Come Visit Us!

We do not have a physical location. We conduct our adoption days on Friday nights from 7-8:30 PM at the Feeders Supply store on Shelbyville Rd. in Middletown. If you cannot make it to an adoption day we are always reachable by email at adoptions@shamrockpets.com

Adopting a cat

We receive many emails about how someone goes about adopting a cat through the Shamrock Foundation. Here are a few simple pointers that should help answer some of your questions.

Selecting a Cat

We have several options for finding the perfect cat/kitten! First, you may look at the cats on our website to find the ones you are interested in. In addition, we do have cats available for viewing at the Feeders Supply stores in Middletown (Shelbyville Road) and on Baxter Avenue. These cats may be viewed during regular store hours. We also recommend that you come to our adoption days to see the cats and to speak with our volunteers.

Viewing the Cat

We do not have a building or kennel. Cats may be seen at adoption days. Some cats/kittens are kept at the Feeders Supply locations in Middletown and on Baxter Avenue. If you contact us about a particular cat/kitten, we will make every effort to see that the cat is coming to our next adoption day or arrange to make the cat available for a visit. You may contact the foster person directly if his/her number is listed on the website.

Putting in an Application

You may wish to complete the simple application on our website and email it to us at cats@shamrockpets.com. You may fill out an application at the Feeders Supply locations and leave it for a volunteer to pick up. You may also come to adoption days and put in an application at that time. Processing an application includes checking your references and talking to your vet. We make every effort to make this process go smoothly; however, it may take anywhere from a few hours to several days for us to process an application. We work hard to match the cat/kitten to the right family. During the application process we will want to meet with you in person and help you find the pet that is suitable for your needs.

Adoption

Once you've found a cat/kitten that you are interested in and your application is approved, we proceed with the contract. The adoption fee is $95.00. That covers the spay/neuter, worming, shots, and routine vet care. If you like, you may adopt a cat/kitten on a trial basis to make sure he or she is a good fit in your household. You can return him or her to us during the first 2 weeks and we will return your money or tear up your check. In this case, we recommend that you start the trial visit on a weekend so that you can maximize the amount of time you are home with the cat.

If the adoption doesn't work out after you have had the cat for a longer period of time, we require that you work with us to find a new home for your cat. If we cannot take the cat back at that point, you must hold onto him or her until we find a new home. If you find a family member or personal friend who wants him, we need to have their information so we know where the cat is.

We conduct our adoption days on Saturdays at the Feeders Supply on Baxter Avenue from 1:00 to 4:00 P.M. and at the Feeders Supply store on Shelbyville Rd. in Middletown from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M.
