The new shelter is finished and the animals have moved in. Life is better in the new shelter, there is room for more animals which means more time as well. The inside of the runs is much nicer too, well lit, heated and NO MORE MICE! There is also a nice fenced area so visitors can take a dog out of the kennel and spend a little time getting aquainted or help decide on an adoption.

**AND MOST OF ALL we need foster homes for small dogs, kittens and puppies or other animals that cannot or should not be held in the shelter facility. If you are willing to be a foster home for an animal in need, email or contact the ACO.
We are a small, city animal impoundment facility, established to deal with homeless, abused or surrendered animals in Norton. The new shelter is a big improvement with 10 dog runs instead of the 6 in the old shelter. We now also have cat facilities for a limited number of cats and kittens.
In the last three years, big changes have occurred at NCDP, thanks largely to the ACO who works hard to make the facility less an impoundment facility and more an "animal shelter". A new shelter has now been built, allowing for sheltering more animals and longer stays. Sherry continues working to find homes for as many of the animals as possible. Despite these positive changes, we are not able to function as a "no kill" facility but each animal is given as much time as space permits to find a home and avoid euthanasia.
Unfortunately, the harsh reality is that thousands of healthy, friendly, loving pets are put to death every day in shelters across the country. Pet overpopulation is a serious problem. Don't assume those cute puppies you let your dog have will find happy homes. Chances are good that at least one of them will be put to death in a shelter.
PLEASE, spay or neuter your pets. Save a life!
