Our dogs love to sleep on Kuranda Dog beds, but we don't have enough for everyone. If you would like to donate a bed at a special wholesale price for a another dog to sleep in comfort, please donate a Kuranda dog bed

News

Last year we lost a portion of our funding and have been relying heavily on our volunteers and their generous donations. WISH LIST: We appreciate the many hours of service performed by our volunteers, however, we do recognize busy schedules! The following is a list of items needed at the Shelter on a regular basis:

We are in GREAT need of Flea/Tick Prevention!!!! We dose out by weight, so we accept the largest dose.
Paper Towels
Bleach
Science Diet for Puppies, Kittens, Dogs, and Cats in bags or cans
Clay Cat Litter
The shelter also collects UPCs from Best Choice products and aluminum cans for cash to benefit the animals in our care.

The Prairie Paws Animal Shelter is a private shelter located in Ottawa, KS providing housing for the Animal Control services for the community, owner relinquishment services, and an adoption program. For more information, please call the Shelter directly at 785-242-2967.

Adopting a friend

Every day we house, on average, 65 dogs/puppies and 100 cats/kittens in our Shelter and Foster Homes. If you are interested in adopting, please contact us via phone or email and we will be happy to answer any questions.

Come Visit Us!

We LOVE visitors (and especially volunteers)! We are open to the public every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 11:00am until 6:00pm. We are also open every Saturday from 10:00am until 4:00pm and Sunday 12:00pm-4:00pm. The Shelter is located 45 minutes south of Kansas City.

Directions to the Shelter

From KC Metro Area. Take I-35 South to Ottawa. Take exit 187 then turn left(east). You will go under the I35 bridge. Go about 1/2 a mile and we are on the left hand side. You will turn in the drive way at Cottonwood Animal Hospital. The shelter's drive is to your right. BRAND NEW BUILDING.

We participate in an off-site adoption event sponsored by The Heart of America Humane Society every Saturday from noon until 3:00pm. To visit the dogs go to the PetCo in Olathe located at 13620 S Blackbob Rd. To visit the cats please visit PetsMart in Overland Park at 11501 metcalf Av. We are also participating in an off site adoption at the PetCo in Lawrence, Ks. We will be there the 2nd Saturday of every month from 11am-2pm.
