PETS FOR ADOPTION
|
| We have chosen Kuranda dog beds for our facilities because they are so good for our dogs. We still don't have enough for all of our kennels. If you would like to donate a bed so another dog can sleep in proper comfort, please click here. |
DONATIONS:
Please help us raise money by collecting BEST CHOICE upc labels! We will earn $30 for every 1000 labels. You can mail or bring the labels to:
The Humane Society of Atchison
125 North 21st Street
Atchison, KS 66002
ABOUT US:
The Humane Society of Atchison is a non-profit organization. We are a no-kill shelter, only using euthanasia for aggression, long term illness, or serious injury where the animal would suffer. This of course means that we have limited space and need many adoptions in order to have space to save more animals. The Humane Society of Atchison was founded November- 1991. The shelter opened April 1, 2000. We are a humane society, not the city animal control. Atchison also has a city animal control. The animal control has dogs up for adoption also. We take some of the animal control's dogs if we have room, but often, we don't have room and they are euthanized. We recommend adopting from our city animal control if you don't find your perfect fur'ever friend from us.

ADOPTING A PET:
In order to adopt, you must fill out a kennel card with your name, address, and phone number. You will also fill out an adoption application and sign a form that legally holds you responsible for that animal's
care. If the animal is spayed or neutered and the adoption application is approved, you can take the pet home the same day! :) If the animal is not altered, you may pick the animal up as soon as it has been done. You may also request a bath for your new pet (dogs only) before you take it home.
If you wish us to hold a pet for a short period of time, a deposit can be made on the animal.
We offer different adoption programs. Our Lonely Paws Program offers discounted adoption fees for special pets due to size, age, or other reasons that may be a challange to adopt. We will waive the full adoption fee for animals (who have the lowest - i.e. black cats) and dogs alike. The Lonely Paws Program fee is a donation intended for adoption of a dog or cat.
In order to keep our Lonely Paws Program, adoption fees through our HIPA (High Profile Animals) program for in-demand breeds or trained dogs, may be higher than standard adoption fees. HIPA fees can start at $100 and are determined on a case-by-case basis. This fee is still at a great discount when compared to fees such as $500 t0 $2000 in other markets and you are adopting a shelter pet with an average cost of over $200 in veterinarian and animal care services.
