News
The Ford County Humane Society offers spay and neuter certificates to anyone in our area to help reduce the cost of spaying and neutering their pets. We are committed to reducing the pet overpopulation problem. Persons interested can call us or come by any Saturday Adopt-A-Pet to pick up an application for a spay/neuter certificate(s). We show our pets by appointment throughout the week.
Who We Are
The Ford County Humane Society was started in 1993 by a group of concerned individuals to improve conditions at our local animal shelter. We continue to be a group of all volunteers who foster animals, work at the weekly Adopt-A-Pet and do education and fund raising activities. There is a membership of about 150 single or family members. Currently the Humane Society does not have a facility of it's own. We board our animals, place them in foster homes or show them for their owners while they continue to live at home.
The Humane Society and it's foster homes are licensed by the State of Kansas Animal Health Department. We are a non-profit 501(c)(3) agency. All donations are tax deductible to the full extent of the law. Since our inception we have found homes for over 2,500 pets and have assisted in the cost of spaying and neutering thousands of animals in our area. This is all made possible by the generosity of our volunteers and donors who give their time and money to help homeless animals in our catchment area.
Adopting a friend
The Humane Society has dogs, cats and an occasional rabbit, guinea pig, etc. All of our pets are spayed/neutered before they are placed unless they are too young. In that case there is a refundable spay/neuter deposit as part of the adoption fee. Our pets are all current on their vaccinations and dewormed. Mixed breed dogs are $70 and cats are $65. Purebred dogs are $100. Dogs that will be living within the city limits of Dodge City must have a city license tag, there is a $5 fee for the tag. Some owner surrender or purebred dogs may have a different adoption fee depending upon the circumstances.
Prices include spay/neuter and current vaccinations on cats & dogs. Dogs are heartworm tested and started on prevention. Cats are feline leukemia tested.
To adopt a pet you start by filling out an application, we can e-mail one to you. We check references such as your landlord if you rent your home and with your veterinarian. We will adopt out of state but do not ship. We will work out arrangements with approved homes to get the animal to them. We want you and your potential pet to meet each other "in person" before any placements are final.
