Keeshond Lovers United (KLU) is a licensed animal shelter in the State
of Kansas and a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. We do not have a shelter facility. Instead, volunteers foster the rescued Keeshonden in their homes and evaluate them for health, temperament, and socialization.
KLU works predominantly in the midwest, particularly Kansas, Missouri,
Nebraska, Iowa and Minnesota. We work hand-in-hand with most of the other
regional Keeshond rescue groups. While we prefer to adopt our dogs into
these areas, we will do out of the area adoptions if there isn't a Keesie
closer to you that matches your needs. We will be glad to put you in contact
with the rescue folks in your area first.
We require an application and we check references, including your vet.
We also arrange a home visit to meet you and your household in person.
The adoption process in not a fast one. All work is done by volunteers
who have full-time jobs in addition to rescue work.
Our goal is to find the right forever home for our Kees and to place
the right Kees in your home.
All our dogs are spayed/neutered, current on shots, heartworm tested
and on preventative, and on flea/tick preventative.
A donation of $150- $300 is required, depending on the dog's age and medical condition. This helps offset medical, grooming,
food, and other financial burdens of fostering.
How to Adopt
1) Visit our website at www.keeshondlovers.com.
There are 2 ways to complete our application. Either print it off and mail
or fax it to us. Or copy and paste it into an email and complete it online.
2) You will be contacted by phone or email. Please be patient…remember,
we are all volunteers and get very busy!!
3) When your application is approved, we will notify you and schedule
a home visit.
4) After the home visit, you will be told if you are approved. An approved
application and home visit does not guarantee that you will be able to
adopt a dog. The right dog for you and the right home for the dog must
be found before you are able to adopt.
