News

Our Walk for Life/Calendar Competition was held on April 19, 2008 to alleviate conflicts with other schedules and to ensure that the dogs were NOT too hot. The weather was great for this year's event. FOA had a fantastic turn-out and had a very successful day to help the pets. Thank you all for your attendance and participation in our fundraiser. Be on the look our in the Fall for the new 2009 calendars!! The Sundown Salute raffle was also a success this year. We raffled off a 1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse on Saturday, July 5, 2008. Thank you to Jim Clark Auto and Coryell Insurors, Inc. for the donation of the car to FOA. FOA could not do what we do without the great support from our local businesses! The proceeds from the raffle went to FOA to help find homes and rescues for our local homeless pets. Thank you all for your generous contributions! We appreciate the community's support in our organization as all of the money goes back to the animals. Our yearly events include the Blessing of the Animals, a Halloween party, the Christmas Parade, Santa Paws and of course our Walk for Life and Calendar Competition. It was another successful year of events to raise money to help vet and transport our animals to safety. Thank you all for your participation!! Please call with any questions about our upcoming events and we hope to see you there!

Who We Are

FRIENDS OF ANIMALS, INC. is a non profit organization that some animal loving citizens started in the fall of 2000. **We are not affiliated with the Friends of the Animals Organization in Topeka, Kansas.** We came up with a mission statement that also incorporates the goals we have regarding homeless animals in our local shelter. These goals are as follows... 1) To greatly reduce the number of animals that are euthanized each year by providing inexpensive or free spay and neuter programs. 2) To educate our youth and adults about the benefits of spay/neuter programs and shelter adoptions. 3) To find loving homes for adoptable shelter animals. 4) To ensure that animals are humanely treated and animal cruelty laws are strictly enforced. 5) To raise funds to ensure the success of the above programs. We are now approximately 220 members strong. If you are interested in becoming a member, contributing to this cause, or if we can answer any questions for you, please contact Linnea Alt at (785) 210-7687 or Sally Mayes at (785)238-8751. You may also write to us at: Friends Of Animals, Inc., P.O. Box 580, Junction City, KS 66441.

Adopting a friend

Most of the animals on our site are located at the Junction City Animal Shelter, as well as some listings from the community at large. Any dog or cat located at the animal shelter will have a $26 adoption fee, which covers the adoption fee and the vaccinations provided at the shelter. The dogs or cats will still need a rabies shot and to be surgically altered (spayed or neutered) unless he/she is already altered. When adopting a new pet, please keep in mind that each dog or cat will have a different personality and you should strive to find the pet that best fits your household. If you are not one who likes to walk and you do not have a fenced yard, a large breed dog may not be the best suited pet for your home. We simply ask that you take some time to make all of the considerations necessary to ensure that the pet that you choose will be in your home for the rest of the pet’s life.
